Power tillers are used for breaking up the soil. They improve conditions for new plantings, develop gardens, weed, and reseed lawn patches. A power tiller takes the toil out of large or difficult projects. Below you will see the three main types of power tillers available. Choosing between them generally depends on the size of the area you wish to till and the type of soil in your area

How do I adjust the carburetor on an Ariens 5020 tiller, model #901016, with a 5 HP Tecumseh engine?

close the needle valve completely, then back it off 1.5 turns. Adjust from there for most efficient fuel usage.

The tiller quit running as if it ran out of gas. it has compression, spark, gas and wont run on ether.the flywheel key is ok

You want to drain the gasoline every winter, and use fuel stabilizer. Gasoline loses its effectiveness after about 30 days, so using stabilizer will keep it from going bad so quickly. This is particularly important when it comes to tillers, which you might take out in the spring and fall and store the rest of the year (depending on your usage). Stabilizer will also keep your carburetor cleaner and prevent it from gumming up. Tillers Direct has some good supplies for keeping your engine running well.

I have an older 5 hp. Mtd tiller Do I have to use

Look on top of the machine. If there is an oil fill then no you do not use mixed fuel if yes it needs engine oil,30 wt.If there is no engine oil fill then you use mixed oil and gas,at a 50:1 ratio.

What type of oil does a troy built tiller use? I have lost my book.

This is dependent upon what the engine application on the tiller is. If it's 2-stroke, use a quality synthetic or semi-synthetic 2-stroke oil mixed with the gas. If it has a 4 stroke engine use SAE30 oil, unless you run synthetic (which I highly recommend), then you can use a multi-viscosity oil if you like, say 10W-30.

How to clean fuel system

One sure fire way is to add some fuel system cleaner to the fuel mix...but, be careful here as the strong solvents in the cleaner can "lean" out the gas/oil mixture and not provide enough lubrication to the 2-stroke engine. Here is what I suggest. Make a batch of fuel/mix for the machine, but make it richer than usual...like it it is 40:1, make it 32:1..or if it is 50:1, make it 40:1. Then, at the auto parts store, get a 16 oz. can of Chem Tool Berryman B-12 carb/injector cleaner. The usage rate is about 1 ounce/gallon. You can use this rate in your 2 stroke mix and maybe even go 1.5oz,/gallon to make sure it does the job. The stuff has some strong cleaners in it, all the ingredients are listed (unlike many products) and it does work. This is the best way I know to clean the 2-stroke fuel system, unless carbon is an issue. Then I suggest a teardown and soaking of affected parts to clean.

Crt or srt tiller?

* CRT or SRT -- These are two terms you will see on rear-tine tillers only. o Counter Rotating Tines are best for heavier duty jobs and for breaking new ground. o Standard Rotating Tines are good for aerating the soil and help propel the tiller forward.
