Question about American Diagnostic Corporation 700 Diagnostix Manual Adult Blood Pressure Sphygmomanometer
Why should I measure my blood pressure?
Measuring your own blood pressure is an important way of monitoring your health. High blood pressure is a major health problem, which can be treated effectively once detected. Measuring your blood pressure between doctor visits on a regular basis in the comfort of your home, and keeping a record of the measurements, will help you to monitor any significant changes in your blood pressure. You should also keep an accurate record of your blood pressure, to help your doctor diagnose and possibly prevent any health problems in the future.

Why check the oil in your car? Why check for viruses in your computer? Your blood pressure is like an indicator of many serious issues your body might have. You need to check that dipstick regularly.. You might (as suggestion) keep a cuff at your home and check every day or two yourself if you are leary of paying for someone to check you out.. it is quite important because it serves as the dash-light for your health status just like the indicator on your dash in your car. Ignoring your car light can lead to a new car.. ignoring the one for your health can lead to you pushing up daisies...

The blood pressure measurement is maybe the single most important factor in determining whether or not you may be in danger of Congestive Heart Failure, which can be, and often is, fatal. Blood pressure medication, or even diet change, can prevent some very serious complications arising from high blood pressure.

Sometimes measuring your blood pressure is tiresome and taking blood pressure medications causes more side effects than not taking anything. However blood pressure measurement is very important because it helps prevent further heart disease. Currently, heart disease (strokes, angina - aka heart attacks, arrhythmias, heart failure) is the number one killer in the United States. Having high blood pressure is just an indicator (or "predictor of future heart problems") of your heart having to work harder than it normally has to. Blood pressure is a range of two different types of readings - systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure reading measure when your heart is contracting and the diastolic blood pressure reading measures when your heart is relaxing. There are many indicators of blood pressure - the blood vessels' pressure, pressure around the kidneys, and pressure around the heart. In our body, these all work together for overall heart function. Thus, it is important to know your blood pressure ranges regularly (once a month if usually normal) or daily if patient is hypertensive (usually over 140/90 on several occasions).
