Re: How Do I Clean The Heads?

Clean the inside of the camcorder with a special head-cleaning cassette which can be found at most Electronics Stores. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper use. If the cleaning cassette fails to adequately clean the camcorder heads, have them cleaned by an Authorized Service Center.

Our dcr-hc52 handycam asked us to clean its head. We did this and replaced the tape. Now it doesn't play back anything, if it is even recording at all.

The head of a camcorder needs a quality tape cleaner to clean it or an experienced technician to do it with the right materials. You should clean manually using professional swabs and isopropyl alcohol. The question is what did you use yourself. If you used the wrong substances to clean it the heads might be dirty now. Anything that leaves some residue on the heads can clog it then you won't be able to use your camcorder normally.

First get a cassette cleaner then run it several times using a few drops of alcohol that is provided. If the heads get clogged then you need to do it manually with a clean white silk cloth making sure that you do not touch the heads with your bare hands but with the cloth. Press gently on the heads because they break easily. The heads are at the bottom of the shiny silver Drum.

If you pressed ******* the heads while you were cleaning them then you could easily have damaged them so then you would need new ones. And for you to be able to fix that you would then need expert hands.

Recorded new tapes show lines or tracking problems when playback Do I need a new battery, clean the heads or a new camcorder

Hi - This is the most common problem with film camcorders. The heads are dirty. you need to get yourself a head cleaning cassette and carefully follow the directions. Since it sounds like you haven't cleaned it in a while or at all would give it a second pass with the cleaning cassette.

Analog camcorders in general specify that the heads should be cleaned every 10-15 hrs.of use. It's possible it's another problem but unlikely and this is a cheap way to find out.

Good Luck and thanks for visiting Fix Ya.

Samsung SC D363 camcorder displays green wide lines on playback function what is wrong?

Sounds like dirty video heads which is going to require a mini dv cleaning tape to clean the heads and the tape path. Worst case scenario if cleaning doesnt help is that it may need the video heads replaced. I hope this helps.

When playing a tape back in the camcorder i can hear audio but there is no picture only snow

The audio and video are read by separate heads. In your case, the video heads need to be cleaned. If you have a "newer" camera, you will need a head cleaner in VHS-C format. An older one can use a standard VCR head cleaner. If you can not locate one, a professional will need to dis-assemble the camcorder to get at the heads to clean them.

One other trick you can try is to take a blank tape and FF it to the middle, start it in play mode and do a reverse scan for a few minutes. That may clean the heads as well.

Sony 8mm camcorder will record sound but no video

Since it is playing the tape, the play head is ok. Now recording is done by recording heads so you may have a clogged heads or damaged recording heads. Try to clean the heads with head cleaning tape to see if it would help. 1. remove the tape and leave the door open. 2. using a canned air, blow out any dusts in the tape area. 3. run head cleaning tape for about 10 seconds and no more. 4. try the recording.. If this does not resolve, you may have a damaged or heavy clogged video heads. Take it to nearest video technician for a diagnostic. -James

Lines in replay

Digital video camcorder are recording signals in very thin line (as thin as 1/8 of a hair.) Therefore, following symptoms may appear if video heads become dirty even a little. If such symptoms appear, clean the video heads with a commercially available dry cleaning cassette. If the symptoms reappear shortly after cleaning, the video cassette may be defective. Stop using the cassette. Video heads may become dirty under the following conditions: (1) When using the camcorder in humid or hot places. (2) When using cassette with damaged or dirty tape. (3) When using the camcorder in dusty places. (4) When using the video heads without cleaning them for a long time. Note: Before you make important recording, clean the video heads and make a test recording first. We also recommend cleaning the video heads after use before storing the camcorder.
