The level of pressure used is based on the type of plenishing job to be done. Materials such as copper or aluminum require a low pound-per-square-inch (psi) level because it is easy to form or buff them. On the other hand, materials such as stainless steel need the air hammer's highest psi levels.

It wont hammer when I put a small or large amount of pressure on the hammer. It hammer only a short while when I start the mammer (about 1 second) and the same when I release the button.

Lack of hammering action usually indicates a lack of lubrication or worn piston orings. This hammer as well as many other makita hammers work with a piston moving forward and back within a cylinder. This piston moves a second piston within the cylinder with a pocket of air (pressure and vacuum). If there is a lack of lubrication or orings are worn, you will not get a good hammering action /force out of the second piston. Time for good cleaning and apply factory lube. Jammed makita an923 nail gun

On most all nailguns when the trigger is activated air pressure is released from the headvalve causing the headvalve to open and fire the piston. If air leaks through the headvalve orings or through the headgasket port to headvalve, it will not fire. Try applying light grease to headvalve orings and make sure that headgasket is sealing around vent hole. If it fires then replace orings in headvalve for long term repair. Secondary problem is worn safety parts and trigger or trigger pin. If these parts are worn the trigger will not push the trigger valve pin all the way in when you bump fire the gun. With air supply disconnected, apply pressure to safety while depressing the trigger and check thet the pin is moving all the way into the trigger valve. Adjust or replace as necessary. Enjoy

Air hammer Question

Air hammers are ideal for some specific jobs of craftsmen. Since they do not require your hand to hold the nail stationary, they are safer than conventional hammers. In addition, since air hammers do not involve swinging, they are perfect for projects that require a great deal of nailing, such as installing drywall. This will help you save energy and complete your task more efficiently

Air hammer tips

Always keep in mind that air hammers are extremely powerful tools. Thus, particular safety precautions should be taken when using them. Be certain to wear safety equipment such as safety glasses and earplugs. Also, when changing the air hammer's bits, always be sure to unplug the air hammer first. Finally when using an air hammer, always be aware of the position of the tool and work piece. The tremendous force that the air hammer exerts can cause the tool or work piece to jump powerfully. This movement could easily cause injury to the operator.
