Although chippers vary greatly in size, style, and capacity, the knives they use are similar. They are rectangular in shape and are usually four to six inches (10-15 cm) across by six to twelve inches (15-30 cm) long. They vary in thickness from about one-half to two inches (1-5 cm). Chipper knives are made from high grade steel and usually contain a minimum of 8% chromium for hardness.

How do I change the blades on a vermeer 1600A chipper

Place the chute over the rotor. Remove all the clamp bolts for one blade. This will allow you to remove the old blade and clamp bar. Clean clamp bar and blade slot. Install new blade with clamp bar. You will need a knife gauge for this. Use the knife gauge at each end of the blade. Torque clamp bolts to 280 ft. lbs. After blades are installed it is necessary to adjust the bed knife by loosening the three bed knife bolts. Use the set screws to adjust the bed knife to 1/16 in. above the lower feed plate. Torque the bed knife bolts to 250 ft. lbs. Then use the other two bolts to adjust the lower feed plate to .013 to .016 between the bed knife and the rotor blades. Put the chute back into place and you are good to go.

MTD 5hp. Starting and running only while I spray

Remove the fuel line from the carb. Drain fuel tank and blow thru fuel line until clear. If you use compressed air be very careful to use LOW pressure. I just use my mouth. reinstall fuel line replace the fuel filter, add a new spark plug for good measure and refill gas tank

You should be chipping away right soon!

I have a Briggs and Stratton Swisher 7.0 Wood Splitter. It worked fine for about a year and a half. Now when we go to use it, and after about 1/2 an hour, the oil bubbles up and spills out, and shuts down....

That would indicate the oil is getting too hot. This can happen if the oil level is too low and the pump mixes air into the oil.

Use of wrong oil could also cause the problem.

Wood Chipper how to

Great input tina783. I have just one thing to add. Try to shred the branches within a reasonable amount of time. I found out that with my shredder, if I put older, dried up branches in, it tends to take a lot more time, as well as tosses chips back out at you. With newly cut branches, this wasn't nearly as much as an issue.

Digger how to

Hammer rebar into the ground to create pathways for water. Grab a hose and soak the ground to soften it before using the post hole digger. Wait until the water has had a chance to soak in. Raise the post hole digger and drop it, jaws open, into the ground. The jaws will cut into the ground and soften it even more for removal. Continue to use the weight of the post hole digger for the hard work, circling around the edge of the hole. Drop the digger down with force once you've loosened up a circle of soil. Open the handles to grab a bite of earth in the jaws and lift it out. Continue with Steps until you've removed all the loose soil, making a hole 1 foot in diameter.
