Great input tina783. I have just one thing to add. Try to shred the branches within a reasonable amount of time. I found out that with my shredder, if I put older, dried up branches in, it tends to take a lot more time, as well as tosses chips back out at you. With newly cut branches, this wasn't nearly as much as an issue.

Wear snug fitting clothing when you use a wood chipper. Baggy clothes are dangerous around a wood chipper because they can get caught in the blades and pull you in. Use ear plugs to protect your hearing against the noise when you use a wood chipper. They are loud machines. Protect your eyes by wearing safety glasses. Shredded materials have a tendency to fly when you use a wood chipper. Put on a good pair of work gloves and a hard hat before you start to use a wood chipper. You never know what kind of materials will fly out when you are chipping. Steel-toed safety boots are also a good safety precaution when you use a wood chipper. Keep your hands and feet away from the wood chipper's feed chute area. It only takes a second of distraction to get caught and pulled in. Push materials into the wood chipper by using a long limb or long piece of wood to help keep hands at a safe distance. Small pieces of twigs and all leaves should be thrown into the transport compartment instead of directly into the wood chipper. Clean excess debris from the area around the wood chipper regularly to prevent accidental falls near the machine. Listen to make sure the knives have come to a complete stop before you open the hood when you use a wood chipper.

SOURCE: ineed to sharpen my wood chipper blades on my

It takes me about 5 minutes to Remove, Sharpen, and Re-install my chipper blade for my Bolens mc2500. First, If your using a screen or rollers in the discharge, then remove them. Look underneath, and you will see the thick flywheel. Make sure the spark pug wire is disconnected, then slowly turn the flywheel by hand until you see the two hex head bolts that hold the chipper blade to the flywheel. Also remember which way you take it off, so it goes back together the same way. using an open end or combination wrench remove the two hex bolts. Now to sharpen, I use a medium/ coarse honing tool made for lawnmower blades. I clamp the blade to the top edge of my Bolens with a pair of visegrips, then a little oil, and the sharpening tool, and I'm done sharpening in about 2 minutes, and then re-installing, reversing the removel process. I hope this helps.

What year is my wood chipper? I purchased a Craftsman 8hp wood chipper-shredder that is silver-gray in color and all metal in construction with a Briggs & Stratton 8hp motor. The B&S motor is...

The B & S Code is the date of Mfg. This engine was built in 1994 (first two digits rep. the year), Sept.( the next two digits rep. the month) and the second day of that month. Your engine was built on Sept.2,1994. Your chipper may be one year newer as the engine had to be installed after the date of mfg. Your welcome

MTD 5hp. Starting and running only while I spray

Remove the fuel line from the carb. Drain fuel tank and blow thru fuel line until clear. If you use compressed air be very careful to use LOW pressure. I just use my mouth. reinstall fuel line replace the fuel filter, add a new spark plug for good measure and refill gas tank

You should be chipping away right soon!

10 hp Troy Built chipper pull start frozen

If a branch was already being chipped when it ran out of gas...you must clear the hopper of any chunks of wood in it. Pull the plug wire and use a metal pry bar to dislodge any pieces of wood. when the flywheel runs free, put the plug wire back on and the choke on. Try it now!!!

What is a chipper?

Most of our industry refers to chippers or chipper-shredders as pieces of equipment that can handle both wood and leaves. These machines have both a chipping device and a leaf-shredding mechanism. This mechanism is basically a hammer mill, cylinder or drum with a series of pivoting flail-type knives. The chipper-shredder usually is a smaller machine and may include a vacuum to clean up leaves. These machines can be self-propelled or stationary. Most chippers are disc-type, consisting of a large, heavy, rotating disc with knives mounted to it and are for chipping wood only.

Woodchipper support

Deaths have occurred involving the use of wood chippers. Never allow children around or near the area when you are using a wood chipper. No one under the age of 18 should be allowed to use a wood chipper alone.
