Another often overlooked situation that causes hydraulic systems to overheat are, obstructions or blockages in the system, dirty or clogged hydro oil filter(s), using a tool that is designed for a closed system or an open system on a pump unit or hydraulic power source or pump of the opposite design (open or closed system operation). Also, check to be sure no restrictor/flow limiters have been installed on the system or tools, or that any reducer "washers" are at any fittings, couplers or other connection points.

Also, all hydraulic oil is hydroscopic, meaning that it will absorb water over time and thus become less effective and contaminated. This is why it is good to change the hydraulic fluid/oil at least once a year to avoid such problems, even if the tool hasn't been used all that much.

Heating of hydraulic fluid in operation is caused by inefficiencies. Inefficiencies result in losses of input power, which are converted to heat. A hydraulic system's heat load is equal to the total power lost (PL) through inefficiencies and can be expressed as: PLtotal = PLpump + PLvalves + PLplumbing + PLactuators If the total input power lost to heat is greater than the heat dissipated, the hydraulic system will eventually overheat.

My jd 3039r hydraulics. Loader and backhoe buckets lose position when running or shut down. Do I need to bleed hydraulics? If yes, how?

no
hydraulic system self bleed from repeated use
what you have are piston seal worn, cylinder walls damaged allowing bypass of oil or faulty control valve units

I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota 3.9 with a 5 speed. I am having difficulties with the clutch and am trying to figure out if it is the clutch needing replaced or if it is the hydraulics.

Bad hydraulics (leaking/spongy) and worn out clutch have opposite symptoms. If the clutch does NOT ENGAGE - get the vehicle moving - you probably need to replace the clutch and/or pressure plate.
If the clutch does NOT DISENGAGE - you can't get the transmission into gear, or there is difficulty or grinding when trying to shift between gears - your hydraulic system is not moving the clutch release arm far enough to disengage the clutch.

WHAT TYPE FLUID IN HYD SYSTEM

If your hydraulics and trans are one using the same oil then use ATF oil, if your hydraulics is a separate tank then you can use a hydraulic oil, ATF, or a light weight oil

93 ford F800 park brake will not hold

The first thing to check is the amount of linings on the shoes . If less than 50 % replace the linings/ shoes. Next check the adjustment is right up . Park brake operation should never rely on hydraulics for the simple reason that hydraulics leak and the brakes come off. It will probably be spring loaded with the electric over hydraulics holding the brakes off when moving

What oil should i put in Fiat 411r hydraulics?

I read someplace the hydraulics use the engine oil. I have the same question. It looks like the hydraulic pump is located at the right hand side of the engine block, forward and is connected to it. Although the previous owner of my tractor used hydraulic fluid.

I have a ford tractor and hydraulics are slow

not so fast,, yes thick hydraulic oil can cause slow hydraulics and if the hydraulics speed up when warm then this may be your problem. if they dont then you need to look at possible problems with the pump, the spool, or linkage to spool. remember that speed is flow, a pump can have good pressure but lousy flow. also there should be some kind of pressure relief valve in system if this stuck open then it will let oil go back to tank causing your problem. there is no quick answer to your problem but there are a lot of possibilities. need to do some diagnosing!
