The range of the BellSouth 2252 will depend on the frequency and the surrounding environment. If you get the FCC license and operate in the GMRS range, then the radios will have a maximum of a 2 mile range. The surroundings will matter: hills, buildings, etc. will shorten the range.
If you are using the FRS frequencies, your range will be significantly shorter (again depending on the surroundings). I'd guess no more than 1/2 mile line of sight.

(who uses another brands of two-way radios and the ones with a 5 mile GMRS range work over 1/2-3/4 of a mile depending on hills. The ones with a shorter range can't communicate with someone at the far end of the property. It's about 3/4 mile from the road to the back fence.)
