Basically yes. Lower power units are usually titled as "hammer drills." Higher power units, usually labeled "rotary hammers," tend to be larger and provide bigger impact forces. But there are a few differences that are worth knowing: The rotary hammer usually have a chisel only feature, for light chiseling and masonry removal. Rotary hammers also have specially designed chucks that only accept bits specifically designed to fit their chuck. The special chuck on a rotary hammer helps hold the drill bit and prevents it from slipping during use.

The impact drill is the every body @home to use machine for a painting on a brick wall, the Hammer drills are the second option to have more possibillities but little functions with drill function with more impact for concrete . the third version is the rotary hammer with the extra hack (demoliotion) option BUT its only just a luxe extra option in 80% of the brands for short dutys and in most cases the function having very limited working hours on it because of heat and materials are not of the same quality as real demolition tools remember that Brands like DUSS HILTI have also tools with a long lasting rotary machine but very expensive , REMEMBER if using a demolition hammer that is made for long lasting jobs , ( The price is usually decisive) it can be used for a few hours a rotary hammer is NOT build for more then one hour continu the new high speed rpm rotary tools will not made people happy in professional working.
If it is nessecary to breaking long jobs and hours to spend ,take the special demolition AIR Tools. Atlas Copco Ingersoll Millers Falls Wacker Neuson Hilti or the one and only ATA Tools.

Push the red button all the way in as far as it goes and turn the knob to the left (counter clockwise) past it's normal position. Then you can pull the knob out. When you replace it make sure that the pin part fits inside the slot of the shifting arm inside the tool.

Will drill but no hammer n

Make sure you have it in the hammer drill mode. To check that it will hammer you can remove the chuck and just run the drill with the front pressed against a wood surface. It should vibrate pretty hard. If this works then you may have the wrong bits or chuck on the drill.

I have a very old 1960's B&D rotary hammer drill. It not longer hammers but it does drill. Can i adjust this thing to hammer?

I have bad news for you, most of the parts for this tool are obsolete no replacement including the tune up kit. If you want to double check go to Dewaltservicenet.com and type in your model number.

Hammer drills types

Two drive systems are available on both the hammer drill and the rotary hammer models: 1. SDS (or Slotted Drive System) bits for hammer drills/rotary hammers allow the bit to slide in the chuck and enhance the hammering action of the tool. For most applications, these bits provide plenty of torque. 2. SDS Max bits are similar to SDS bits, but have larger shanks and come in larger sizes than SDS bits. These powerful bits are useful in industrial applications.
