I have 2 makita variable speed polishers....i have fixed them myself many times..its either brushes or cord...My older one is two years old,and it is really acting up replaced brushes yesterday and stopped...


look for excessive lambs wool in the area around the armature/commutator. Then look for the commutator being cupped real bad and if so you would need to replace it or have it turned at a repair shop if it is not that bad. Clean the brush tubes also to make sure the brushes move freely.

Porter cable polisher5 7424 only works at max speed


it could be that the variable speed module is malfunctioning. If it is the part number is 886978 and lists for 12.27. I would check for a buildup of polishing pad inside the handle area and clean thoroughly before ordering any parts. You can view a breakdown at Dewaltservicenet.com
