The RPM rating of the die grinder is the deciding factor in the tool’s usage. A die grinder with a lower RPM is best used for fine grinding and finishing work. Speeds lower than 10,000 RPM are best for this function. A die grinder with an RPM between 10,000 and 20,000 is great for creating rough finishes and minor buffing jobs. If the die grinder will be used to remove metal burrs or to cut metal, it must have an RPM rating of over 20,000 and a no-load speed of at least 30,000 depending on the RPM rating.

The pulley on the compessor only came in one size ~ about 10 inch. The motor size pulley would depend on the speed of the motor. To get a good volume of air, the pump needs to turn about 800 to 1000 rpm(most pumps have max rpm at that range, good idea to check ). Gas engine turns at 3000 ~ 3600 rpm so use about 3" pully or determine by counting the number of turns of motor/engine to make one revolution of the pump. Electric motors will turn 3450 or 1725. Choose pulley to turn pump at desired speed below max pump rpm and capacity of the motor.

High --1600 rpm ?? rpm idle


The normal idle speed is below 1,000 rpm...between 800 to 900 rpm. I suspect that the idle-air control motor has seized and can no longer automatically adjust the engine's idle speed. This part is also responsible for slightly increasing idle speed when the airconditioning is switched on to compensate for the added engine load. Some cars even have a "step-up" solenoid to increase idle.

When replacing the idle-air control motor, remember to clean the port that IAC motor goes into; there will be some carbon build-up that may prevent the part's cone-shaped valve from seating properly. A can of intake valve spray helped along with some Q-tips works well.

The first step to resolving this issue is to select the appropriate RPM speed for the record that you have in hand. If it is not a simple 33 1/3 RPM record set on 45 RPM, then it would seem that the phono motor speed could require adjustment. Your phonograph is a belt-driven PX-E860 K with a DC servo motor.

Some people mistake the the 7"/LP record size LEVER for the rotational speed BUTTON (33 RPM when raised; 45 RPM when down).

In the case of needing to actually callibrate the rotational speed, underneath the unit there is a hole labeled "33" & a hole labeled "45." Using a very fine precision screwdriver, you can callibrate the speed of each. Insert the screwdriver into the repsective hole past the rubber & slightly turn the screw (rotational speed increases as you turn the screw clockwise).

One dealer for your model compressor is Northern. They are very good at replacement parts. If you do not have 3 phase power, you could shop around for 5 to 7 hp 220 v motor making sure that the motor mount will align with your plate. Pully size depends on dia. of pulley on the pump. Most pumps turn between 550 min to 1100 rpm depending on the power available and cfm requirements. Most motors turn at 1725 rpm so for example if your compressor has a 14 in. pulley then you motor will need a 5 in. pulley to turn it about 620 rpm. The larger the pulley at the motor the higher cfm produced but more amps used. Motor speed x pulley dia. divided by compressor pulley dia. To obtain more efficiency and highest cfm you will need 3 phase. Good place to see motors and two piece pulley combnations is www.grainger.com. Good luck

The Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor is mounted to the throttle body and controlled by the PCM. The throttle lever rests against the initial adjustment screw of the actuator (plunger). I had the same problem a while back, But I didn't bother with exact speed, what I cared more about was power and speed, and not bogging down. And I had it running smooth. Of course I have no idea what the pulley diameters were, but it sounds like you should be real close with the 2 1/2 inch at the head and 5 1/2 inch at the motor spinning 1725, should be about 900? So to get 700, bring the 5 1/2 down to 4 1/2, see if it has enough speed/power.

Before we go any further, please understand I have no knowledge of any previous history on your question; I have never seen your question before.

Given the information you provided here is the answer:

Motor = 1750
Buffer = 400 to 600
Pulley A = 5.5
Pulley B = 3.0

With the equipment you have, the smaller pulley goes on the motor while the larger pulley goes on the buffer. The end RPM of the wheel (regardless of the diameter) with this equipment is 1114.6 RPM.

The ratio you have is about 3 to 2 while you probably need a ratio of about 3 or 4 to 1. Said differently, you want 1750 to reduce to about 500.

A two inch pulley on your motor would give you a speed of 636 RPM.

A 1.75 inch pulley on the motor will provide you with 556.8181818181 RPM on the wheel.

Understand, the wheel will be a constant RPM but different parts of the wheel will travel at different speeds. The outside of the wheel will be turning around the axel at the same rate as the inside (toward the center) of the wheel. The same number of revolutions ... HOWEVER - the speed of the buffer at 7 inches from the center will be much higher than the speed at one inch from the center. The approximate speed at the outside edge of your 14 inch buffer disk is 3951 inches per min. At one inch from the center, the speed is close to 2800 inches per second. Im pretty sure my numbers are correct.

So, you need a smaller motor pulley to actually get what you want. You could get a bigger buffer pulley, but small pulleys are less $ than big pulleys.

Motor & pulley


It would take 6" pully w/ a 2.25" which would not fit on that machine, no room for the 6". Replace with the same RPM motor is the proper way, unless you simply want a slower speed sander, duh! You cannot change the motor rpm without a defenant power issue, if you change the rpm your sander will power out, sorry?
