Portable table saws perform many of the functions of larger stationary table saws but have a decided advantage in their mobility. High mobility makes them the perfect choice for framing and deck building. They're also a good choice for small shops with limited space. Stationary saws added power enables the saw to run knives and cutters designed to mill and remove large amounts of stock and usually accept more accessories than portable saws.

I don't know how to use a table saw. It didn't come with instructions. How do I get started?

Beverly,
First of all...PLEASE DO NOT try to use the saw before you do some extensive reading and viewing. A table saw can be a very dangerous piece of equipment and can do some unexpected things if you're not very careful. Even I, after 50 years of experience, still make mistakes that can be costly!!!

First, what kind of saw is it? Who makes it? A picture would be good. What kind of condition is it in? Tell us more.

Second, once you know what kind it is, you can contact the manufacturer or get a copy of the manual on-line. Reading the manual will definitely help you understand this basic woodworking tool.

Third. Go to YouTube and click on this link
Table Saw Tutorial for a basic tutorial. It'll give you some of the things you're looking for.

Good luck and be so careful! Nothing works like a table saw, but nothing can be more dangerous to life and digits.

Moter bogs down on my saw can anyonehelp

Maybe it's under-wired? When you start it up, if the lights dim, and the saw takes 2 or 3 seconds to come up to speed, then your wire is definitely too small and/or too long. 14 gage wire is almost always too light, although a very short 14 gage extension cord plugged into a circuit wired with 12 gage is OK. The cord on the saw itself is probably 14 gage.

What is the proper way to attach the pulley to the shaft of a Craftsman Table Saw? What size and style 'key' does the shaft take that the allen screw tightens down on to stay on the shaft?

At the arbor end it should be a curved 3/16" key. At the motor it will be a square 3/16" key. I would guess these should be available at most hardware stores, but I would have both types & most other parts too. I sell craftsman table saw parts, you can contact me via email jimatcavanaungh@cs.com
