Chain pitch is the spacing of the rivets on the chain. The saw's sprocket has the same spacing. The normal pitch is 3/8"

What other chain can i use on a stihl 025

You need to know three things about your saw as to what chain will interchange....1. Pitch of the chain. 2. Guage of the guide bar. 3. Number of chain links.

Your little 025 Stihl wil probably have an .050 guage and a .325 pitch. The standard guages for small saws are .043, .050 with .058 and .063 being reserved typically for the larger displacement saws.

The pitch is the length of three links, divided by two and the number of links is kinda self-explanatory. (The 025 USUALLY is set up for the .325 pitch.)

Any chain that matches the three measurements for your respective saw should interchange. Hope this helped instead of adding to the confustion......

What causes my 460 chain saw to tear up the teeth on the chain in the clutch

wrong pitch of chain for that saw . sometimes folks bring me a saw that they have no idea what the correct pitch chain is for saw , im lucky n that respect as I got dozzens and dozzens of old chains laying about so I grab a few a try em for size on the ole saw . so my suggestions to you if your unable to do that is to go to a ole chainsaw shop and ask to test fit a few chains for size , saves you from tearin up a clutch sprocket

Why doe my sprocket on Husqvarna 455 keep tearing up the drive part of he chain

Are you sure the pitch of the chain is the same as the sprocket, ie if you are running a 3/8 pitch chain you need a 3/8 sprocket, if this is correct then you need to address your chain tention and sharpening.

I have husquavarna chain saw s/n 95212H01984 with sticker that says 41 Air Injection. Need to buy chain and/or chain bar. Need to know the model number for this serial number. Can you provide

The saw is a 41, as standard it ran a 15" bar and chain, in the UK it ran a .325 pitch, however in the US, it ran a 3/8 pitch chain, as you should change the sprocket if fitting a new chain, i would put it on .325 if it is not already, the sprocket is part no. 530069342, the 15" chain is 501840664, and the guide bar is 508926164 these are .325 pitch 050 gauge and 64 drive links, this combination will cut much faster than the 3/8 low profile combination.

Need to know the degree to set my electric chain saw sharpener for husqvarna chain. This is a 20 inch chain.

A 20" bar unfortunately does not narrow it down. Fortunately both the .325 pitch chain and the 3/8 pitch chain sharpen at 25 degrees and you should have one of these chains. Hope this helps.

My chain binds on the sprocket and will not turn. have replaced the chain

Remove the bar and chain and examine the sprocket teeth for excess wear or other damage. Make sure the chain 'pitch' (the distance between the drive teeth) matches the sprocket pitch. If the sprocket is badly damaged, the entire clutch should be replaced. Hope this helps!

After new clutch sprocket &good bar &chain chain r bar moves prematuely and chain comes off bar nuts r tight

have you made sure that chain pitch and gauge are the same as the sprocket pitch pitches can be 3/8 lo pro 0.50 gauge

.325 x 0.50 gauge , .325 x 0.58 gauge

3/8 std x 0.50 or 3/8 x 0.58 gauge or 3/8 x 0.63 gauge

you could even have the correct drum but wrong rim sprocket on it

worst case is you could have mismatch bar and chain

make sure that bar adjjuster assy is working correctly

recheck chain / sprocket pitches and bar pitch and groove
gauge

be sure that you fitted chain to rim on sprocket correctly when you fitted bar and chain?

is the clutch cover pulling down tight ?

have a look and let me know if and what you find

cheers paul

I want to run a 3/8 pitch 0n my 028 do i need to

The following is copied from the Oregon FAQ "What is pitch".
Chain pitch is the distance between any three consecutive rivets divided by two. Pitch defines the size of the chain. OREGON® chain is made in several pitches - 1/4" is the smallest, 3/8" is the most popular. Other parts of the cutting elements are pitch-related. The drive sprocket must be the same pitch as the chain, and so must the nose sprocket in sprocket-nose bars.
An illustration and the original question is here: http://www.oregonchain.com/pro/service/faq.htm
If the result from an existing chain is 3/8"s or 0.375" then you need not replace the sprocket. If the result is different then the drive sprocket and bar nose if sprocketed must be changed. Chain gauge must also match to prevent problems.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. HTH & Good Luck.

Degree of pitch when sharpening chain on Shindawa chain model 360

It is dependent on the manufacturer of the chain not the saw.
Download this and look carefully at page 9.
