Use a flat head screwdriver to pry open the plastic pieces that cover the screws. Using the same flat head screw driver, unscrew the large plastic screws holding the old seat in place. There are usually plastic nuts on the underside that you can hold on to while removing the screws. Remove the old seat. Clean the area where the screws were and dry thoroughly. If the new seat has an adhesive pad, remove the covering from the adhesive and put the seat in place. Thread the new screws through the holes and attach with the new nuts. If there aren't new nuts and screws, you can use the old ones, provided they weren't damaged during removal. Snap the caps covering the screws on the new seat in place. Be careful not to over tighten the screws! Since they're plastic, they can be easily damaged by a screwdriver!

Installing a new Toilet - How to install a Toilet

If you can install your own toilet then you can choose what toilet best suits your needs, as there is a very big variety in style, price, and quality of toilets. Installing your own toilet is not as big a question as you might think it is. Learn how you can install a toilet yourself. You can have your new model toilet in place in just a few hours. Probably even much less time than that.

The first thing you need to do is pick out the toilet that you prefer to have. If you are older or have health problems, consider a handicap height toilet. They are a couple of inches taller than a standard toilet and make it much easier to get up from. If you have a lot of usage than a pressure assisted toilet might also be a good fit for you. The extra water pressure will help to keep the toilet from clogging. Toilets usually come without a seat, so don't forget to buy a new one or you can save the one from your previous toilet if it will fit the bowl of the new one.

The floor does not have to be spotless before installing the new toilet, but it should be fairly clean. You will next need to install the tank onto the bowl. Set the bolts with the rubber washers on them in the holes on the tank and then set the tank on the back of the toilet bowl. Tighten the bolts gently, just expanding the washers a bit.

Next, turn the toilet bowl upside down and place an new wax ring and sleeve onto the toilet horn. The toilet bowl wax gasket works best if it is at room temperature. This will ensure the proper forming of seal. Now stand directly over the toilet and lift it turning it over and setting it down over the bolts in the flange. By doing this you will place the toilet on top of the wax ring. The bolts will come up through the holes on the side of the toilet.
Install the washers over the bolts and slowly tighten the nuts until snug, while slowly pressing down until the toilet is seated flush with the floor. Make certain that the bolts are tight enough to prevent the toilet from rocking, however do not over-tighten them. Tightening the bolts too much will cause the toilet which is porcelain, to crack. Now, reconnect the water line from the floor to the tank. To give it a nice finished look a bead of silicone caulk can be run around the base of the toilet. Remember that he caulk will be visible, so choose a color that looks good with your toilet for a professional look.

Installing your own toilet can be just that easy. In an afternoon your can pick out your new toilet, remove your old one, install your new one and have it up and flushing in no time at all! Then last of all, check for leaks!! Don't be embarrassed if you find a leak, retighten and check again. Even a pro will have a leak sometimes. Leaks happen! Good Luck!

Self closing all in one tolet seat boxed, hidden screws, how to tighten

If you are trying to install a standard toilet seat on a special "smooth sides" toilet, it likely will not work. Most hidden bolt toilets come with a special seat because you cannot get to anything from below. This special seat has a set of expanding style bolts that are attached to the screw that is part of the seat. The plastic expanding bolt goes into the hole(s) on the toilet, and as you tighten the screw on the toilet seat bolts, they expand the plastic part in the hole of the ceramic toilet.

Kohler cimarron broken seat, replacement parts don't work 2x's

No do not use metal bolt and nut as this can crack the toilet. Just go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy 2 plastic bolts , 2 plastic wing nuts, and 2 plastic washers. Install with seat through toilet holes and tighten by hand until tight. I then use pliers to tight just a turn tighter and the seat should be center as you tightened one side, then the other, and back again until tight.

Tiled bathroom floor. Went to install toilet

hi, the tile is supposed to go under the toilet flange (the thing you put the wax ring on), very common "oops", can be rectified by placing another wax ring right on top of the first on. best to make the first one a "horn type" wax ring, then put the plain one (no horn) on top of first and try to smoosh it on just enough to stay in place so when you install toilet it doesn't move,.....cheers!

Lid to toilet tank as i dropped the lid and broke it.

Hello;
Go down and buy another seat for your toilet. Under the rim are 2 nuts 1 on each side. Unscrew the nuts directly under the back of the seat. When the nuts are removed pull the seat off and discard. Install the new seat in the reverse order.
Thanks;

Unable to fit a toilet seat

Hi neenyc02.

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your problem is: The cistern to your toilet is behind a wall. and you can't fit a new seat

I'm having trouble visuallising your problem. For the average toilet there are only two sizes, round front and elongated. Compost and other special types are usually made to accept one or the other. If we're talking about a small marine tupe or such it would still install very much the same way. If you could upload some clear pictures of your problem it would help a great deal. In any case you will need access to the bolt holes (top & bottom).
