For a pretty simple work it should cost something like 200 dollars. For a more complicated work it can get to around 500-600 dollar.

Paragon 8141-00 defrost timer wont turn.

One of my first questions is has it worked at all.? If not, probably the wiring is backwards. They generally are good timers. If it has, you may have the power leg to it tripped. Turn off both legs and then back on. This should take care of it. Next , probably the motor. Get a whole new timer. Not worth the savings and effort to fool with it.

Why is my timer runnung backwards

Timer is not identified.
Analog timers have clock motor.
If the gears strip out, then timer can run backwards.
Some timers have replaceable clock motors, such as Intermatic and Tork box timers, and pool timers.

While small plug in timers generally do not have replacement parts.

My Woods timer does not keep time

Timer is not identified.
As a general rule with Woods timers, there are no replacement parts and timer must be replaced.

I have a wall-switch Intermatic Timer Model 885L that has become too stiff to turn itself off automatically. Can these be lubricated by WD-40 safely???? Or what is best fixit???

I am unable to identify Intermatic 885L

Add a comment with clear description of timer so I can identify and help.
With mechanical dial timers, once the motor begins to slow down, then motor overheats and burns out. This is true for all electric motors, and eventually all electric motors stop working.
Power pack yard-light transformers, in-wall timers and plug-in type timers are not repairable, even with WD40, because the motor has already overheated.
These timers are replaced with new timer.
However if you have a power pack, since this timers is expensive, you can buy cheap plug-in timer, set power pack to override, and then plug power pack into cheap timer.

With direct wire mechanical box-type timers that are used for parking lot lights and pool pumps, for example T100 series 120V and 240V timers, the clock motor is replaceable. These small motors cost $16 to 60 depending on clock.

Again, add a comment with clear description of timer so timer can be identified for certain.
I can also post the manual if available, and post links to sellers of similar/same timer if replacement if necessary.

Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, expert speaks with you over phone while you work on timer or any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.

Not keeping correct time

You posted under Paragon 4001-00 120Volt SPST timer

1) If timer is not keeping correct time, generally you need to buy new clock motor.
However Paragon is no longer making timers and parts, except for defrost timers.
4001-00 is not defrost timer.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#Paragon4000

2) You probably need to replace timer
Intermatic cross reference shows T101 timer is correct replacement.
http://www.intermatic.com/customer%20service/competitive%20cross%20reference.aspx

3) Amazon sells T101 for $43.
This price is a lot lower than trying to find somebody who has specific Paragon clock motor
http://www.amazon.com/Intermatic-T101-Hour-Dial-Timer/dp/B00002N5FN

4) Grainger and many other places sell T100 series replacement trippers and motors.
No worry about defunct product

5) Wiring for T101 appears below:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T101

Cross-over wiring is as follows:
Paragon terminal 1 goes to T101 terminal 1
Paragon terminal 2 goes to T101 terminal 2
Paragon terminal 3 goes to T101 terminal A

Have a 4003-00 Timer for a business park outdoor parking lot lights. I need to change hte tim to come on ~ can't find the book to tell me how to change this? Can you help?

ef74fbb.jpgParagon 4000 series is a mechanical dial timer

fb54fa2.jpg
Image explains general operation of timer
Attach Black tripper to dial at time you want lights to turn OFF
Attach Silver tripper to dial at time you want lights to turn ON
Minimum on-off period is 1-1/2 hours
Re-set dial after power outage.

The dial rotates with passing time
The timer takes the Paragon X2772 tripper
If tripper does not turn lights off-and-on, then you might need new trippers
If dial does not rotate, you might need new timer
If manual override does not work then check electricity
