Make sure you are using three way switch's and not plain on/off switch's there is a difference. if you are using 2 plain on/off switch's the lights will only come on when they are both off. Find the power side with a meter. Put the meter on V A/C and hold the leads. One on the white wires that are connected together seperate from the switch. Id the hot wire. Now, go to the other side and id the hot wire on the other switch. Disconnect everthing on both switches. Find the hot wire again and on the side that the hot wire is on, put that hot wire on the bottom black looking phillips screw. Put the other two on the top of the switch. Go to the other switch and put the hot wire (black) on the top. Take the bulb out of the socket and put you meter on the beep continuity. Place one in the socket and find the other by oplacing the probe on the other two wires one at a time. The one that beeps goes on the black phillips screw and the one that doesnt goes on the other screw on the top.

T104r timer manual switch not working, clock runs fine, on and off trippers work

The contacts inside the time clock have most likely warn out. If it is coming on randomly it is not making good contact and will create arcing, which is dangerous. Call an electrician, they may be able to replace just the internals.

I am installing a SPST door switch in my closet and have two ceiling lights both getting power with a pull string. What is the sequence i should use when wiring these two lights to the switch ?

Assuming both lights are operated by the one pull switch and its working correctly as it is Just disconnect the black (hot) wire and the neutral (white) wire from the pull switch and connect them to the new switch black to dark terminal and neutral to silver terminal. You will obviously need to run a 14/2 cable from the door switch to the old switch location if you don't have one there.

Only works when one switch is up and the other one down

Are you sure you have the correct switches?,like in the bathroom you would have an on/off type of switch,as to for a living room you'd have a switch that turns on the lights when coming in,then a switch at the other end that'd turn the light off. These kind of switches require special wire connections;look it up on-line or ask someone at a lighting store,I'm sure they'd help/draw you how to connect.

Hello, I need a little more info,-
is it for new installation or to replace existing one?
In generall combo switch/outlet comes with its propper colored screws which indicates the position of the wiring, white screw is for neutral (white), single bronce screw is for light (wire that returns from fixture)
double bronce screw which is united by small metal for hot wire(black), I hope it works!

I am installing a new closet with double doors. Can I put a GS-SK SPST Switch Kit in both the left and right jambs, or must I use only one kit in one jamb? Thanks.

You can use a switch in both jams, just wire them in parallel. For example, if your light outlet box contains the supply (hot) cable, you would run a cable from _each_ door switch to that same box. The hot would then be connected to the line side of both switches (pick a wire from each switch), and the load side (the remaining 2 wires) of both switches would be connected to the light. That way either switch will operate the light, and the light will shut off as long as both doors are closed.

I believe that RC-120 is a 2-wire closet light control relay that is designed only to turn on while switch is closed - Do you mean 120 or is it a 115 (three wire on-off latching relay)

How to check a light switch

I'm assuming you mean to see if there is power to it, to do this first remove the cover around the lightswitch then unscrew it from the wall, flip it over and get a multimeter and place the positive end on the white wire and the negative end on the black wire and see what it comes up as, it should read around 110 volts.

I am replacing a 3 way light switch with a dimmer switch. The existing switch has the green ground, two black on one side and a red on the other. The new dimmer has the green ground, two red and one black....

There is no universal convention on the color coding of wires for three-way switches, other than green always being ground. Fortunately if you wire it wrong you won't hurt anything, it just won't work right. Two wires are "travelers", they run between one three-way switch and the other. The "travelers" were attached to opposite sides of one end of your old switch. From your description, one is red and one is black. (These two wires are interchangeable, except that in one position both toggles up or both down would ON. In the other position one toggle up and the other down would be ON.) The "third wire" was attached to the other end of the old switch and is black. If you can't tell by just looking at it which lead of the new switch is alone at one end of the new switch (and is therefore mate for the "third wire"), you can just try the combinations. Assuming you still know which black wire is your "third wire" there will only be 3 combos.

Connecting Leviton Decora light switch.

At the switch you have a feed wire coming in this brings in power which originates in the electric panel. You also have a feed or feeds goings out to other lts or switches, this you seem to have on the switch. instead of the closet switch loop.undo all the wires. find the only hot this is the one wire you can touch to the others and make different lts come on i reccomend getting a electric tester to do this. FInd the wire that goes to the closet lt. Once your sure put it to the side. wirenut all other wires together with the hot wire. this makes all other switches independantly hot. connect the hot to the switch and the closet lt to switch. I HOPE THIS MAKES SOME SENSE TO YOU . let me know if i can help

The three black wire are as follows: One is the hot wire. One feeds the closet light. One feeds the lights for the kithen and bath. Turn off the power at the circuit breaker or fuse panel and disconnect all three black wires and be sure they aren't touching anything. Turn the power back on and using a test light or meter determine which black wire is live. Turn the power back off and mark the hot wire with a pen, marker, or piece of electrical tape. Connect the wire you marked with a wire nut to one of the other two black wires. Turn the power back on. If the closet light comes on, that is the wire that you want to connect to one of the terminals of the switch. If the lights in the kitchen and bath now work, leave these wires connected together and connect the third wire to one of the switch terminals. Turn the power back off. While the hot wire and the wire for the kitchen might have both connected to the switch terminal, this is no longer allowed by code. Instead take another piece of wire of the same type and connect it to the hot wire and the kitchen wire with the wire nut and connect the other end to the other switch terminal. There should be a green ground screw terminal attached to the metal frame of the switch. Using a green or bare copper wire connect this to the ground wires in the switch box. Reinstall the switch and turn the power back on. Everything should be good now. If the fuse blows or the breaker trips, replace the switch.
