Make sure you are using three way switch's and not plain on/off switch's there is a difference. if you are using 2 plain on/off switch's the lights will only come on when they are both off. Find the power side with a meter. Put the meter on V A/C and hold the leads. One on the white wires that are connected together seperate from the switch. Id the hot wire. Now, go to the other side and id the hot wire on the other switch. Disconnect everthing on both switches. Find the hot wire again and on the side that the hot wire is on, put that hot wire on the bottom black looking phillips screw. Put the other two on the top of the switch. Go to the other switch and put the hot wire (black) on the top. Take the bulb out of the socket and put you meter on the beep continuity. Place one in the socket and find the other by oplacing the probe on the other two wires one at a time. The one that beeps goes on the black phillips screw and the one that doesnt goes on the other screw on the top.

The contacts inside the time clock have most likely warn out. If it is coming on randomly it is not making good contact and will create arcing, which is dangerous. Call an electrician, they may be able to replace just the internals.

Check the installation of the switch. It sounds like it is installed upside down, or the terminal wires were reversed. You may be able to easily switch the leads to make it work correctly.

How to change a ignition switch on a 1990 Z24 cavalier and a diagramof what to look for

Ignition Switch REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 1982–91 Vehicles The switch is located on the steering column and is completely inaccessible without first lowering the steering column. The switch is actuated by a rod and rack assembly. A gear on the end of the lock cylinder engages the toothed upper end of the rod.
  1. Lower the steering column; be sure to properly support it.
  2. Put the switch in the OFF-UNLOCKED position. With the cylinder removed, the rod is in OFF-UNLOCKED position when it is in the next to the uppermost detent.
  3. Unfasten the two switch screws and remove the switch assembly. Fig. 1: Removal and installation of the ignition switch and related steering column components — 1990 vehicle shown 87958059.gif

Fig. 3: Exploded view of the steering column including the ignition switch — 1990 vehicle with tilt column shown 87958061.gif
    To install:
  4. Before installing, move the new switch slider (standard columns with automatic transaxle) to the extreme left position. Move the switch slider (standard columns with manual transaxle) to the extreme left position. Move the slider (adjustable columns with automatic transaxle) to the extreme right position and then move the slider one detent to the left (off lock). Move the slider (adjustable columns with manual transaxle) to the extreme right position.
  5. Install the activating rod into the switch and assemble the switch on the column. Tighten the mounting screws. Use only the specified screws, since overlength screws could impair the collapsibility of the column.
  6. Reinstall the steering column.

Hi my problem is that reverse lights arent working, was told that it was the individual switch, no fuses or bulbs are blown can you tell me where the individual switch is located?

Usually the switch that controls reverse is somewhere related to the shifter cable.

  1. Position the shift lever in neutral.
  2. Raise the truck and support it on safety stands.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector at the switch.
  4. Unscrew the back-up light switch from the extension housing.
  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure Tighten the switch to 60 inch lbs.

To install:
  1. Screw the new switch into the housing and tighten it to 60 inch lbs.
  2. Connect the wire and lower the truck.

Will a 1993 ignition switch housing kit fit an 1986 liberty flhtc?Only difference i can see visually is in the type of key used. not sure of the wiring harness on bike yet,and will it line up?

As long as both switches have the same number of connections, they should work. I think they should have six connections on the switches. Earlier switches had only five and latter switches were electronic with a plug on them.

1998 Mercury Villager Break light switch

go here for help.

Brake light circuit goes through turn signal switch. Do turn signals work ok? Does high mount stop lamp do this too? If you disconnect brake switch, do the lights go off? Do you have trailer tow? Maybe that wire is an issue. I would check brake switch first again. Maybe out of position.

I think you need to adjust the switch.

  1. Install the BPP switch.

  1. Tighten the BPP switch locknut to 12-15 Nm (9-11 lb-ft).

Connecting Leviton Decora light switch.

At the switch you have a feed wire coming in this brings in power which originates in the electric panel. You also have a feed or feeds goings out to other lts or switches, this you seem to have on the switch. instead of the closet switch loop.undo all the wires. find the only hot this is the one wire you can touch to the others and make different lts come on i reccomend getting a electric tester to do this. FInd the wire that goes to the closet lt. Once your sure put it to the side. wirenut all other wires together with the hot wire. this makes all other switches independantly hot. connect the hot to the switch and the closet lt to switch. I HOPE THIS MAKES SOME SENSE TO YOU . let me know if i can help

My tenant was complaining taht he was getting a shock when he touched a Leviton 104-05611-2WS 15A Decora Single Pole switch for a bedroom closet. My problem is I now cannot figure out how to reconnect the...

The three black wire are as follows: One is the hot wire. One feeds the closet light. One feeds the lights for the kithen and bath. Turn off the power at the circuit breaker or fuse panel and disconnect all three black wires and be sure they aren't touching anything. Turn the power back on and using a test light or meter determine which black wire is live. Turn the power back off and mark the hot wire with a pen, marker, or piece of electrical tape. Connect the wire you marked with a wire nut to one of the other two black wires. Turn the power back on. If the closet light comes on, that is the wire that you want to connect to one of the terminals of the switch. If the lights in the kitchen and bath now work, leave these wires connected together and connect the third wire to one of the switch terminals. Turn the power back off. While the hot wire and the wire for the kitchen might have both connected to the switch terminal, this is no longer allowed by code. Instead take another piece of wire of the same type and connect it to the hot wire and the kitchen wire with the wire nut and connect the other end to the other switch terminal. There should be a green ground screw terminal attached to the metal frame of the switch. Using a green or bare copper wire connect this to the ground wires in the switch box. Reinstall the switch and turn the power back on. Everything should be good now. If the fuse blows or the breaker trips, replace the switch.
