Question about Miele Revolution 600 Bagged Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

Miele Revolution 600

Hi
We have a 4 year old Meile vacuum cleaner. It keeps cutting out when we are using it. The bag has been replaced and the suction tube is clear of
debris. Sometimes it can run for a minute, sometimes it can be every few
seconds. I think the motor is okay. It seems to happen when you are moving it like a loose connection on the suction tube side but cannot find anything to check as the tube fits into the main body via a round hole plus
a push fit 3 spade socket which seems okay and the spades look to be clean. Any ideas?? Thanks

Definitely the Power Head! When we open the bag compartment the power rises to maximum again. Similarly if we disconnect the hose completely the motor power increases immediately

Yes the light goes back to the off setting on the handle and you

have to push the buttons to get it up to speed again. sometimes it will work for a while after that sometimes it goes straight off again

I have the same problem and have been told I need a new hose which will cost $380.00 I don't know why it can't be replaced with a new hose without the computerised power on the handle. I think if they have been faulty they should be replaced free of charge.

I have/had the same problem - the repair shop told me it was the "motor mounts"- ?? I opened it (easy, just take out screws), found sparking by the motor brushes, replaced those but I think it was just a connection that was out of the motor brush unit since one came with the old (not worn out) brush. Now I have everything in working order- but I can't get the top back on and get the plug from the power cord to plug into the plug on the cover , on the *bottom* of the cover, that is. IOW- I'd have to take the plug out of the bracket, plug it in, assemble the top and bottom and leave the plug rattling around in there by the cord reel. Doesn't sound like a good solution. A diagram or picture of the assembled bottom motor/cord reel set up would be very helpful.

But you're saying that the power rises again? That would indicate that the main canister's motor is changing speeds, not the power head motor.

When it "cuts out," do the lights on the handle where you can change the power drop to the lowest light position? (Off?)

Is it just the powerhead cutting out, or is it the main canister motor?

This is a problem with the hose, and unfortunately it will require replacement of the entire assembly.

The SES-125 hoses produced in the general vicinity of late 2002 had a tendency to start building up static and kicking the motor off after a few years. The problem was rectified, and the more current hoses do not have this problem.

Head to your friendly neighborhood Miele dealer and get a new hose, and this problem will not occur again.

$380 is a bit high: I believe the MAP price of that is somewhere around $160-180.

You can't replace it with a different hose because the electrical connections back at the canister are different.

Miele's 2 year hose warranty is far superior to any other company's hose warranty. While it's unpleasant to have to replace it, can you think of any company on Earth that would replace a part that's 5,6,7 years old that worked fine prior to that?

Popped the lid open to change vacuum cleaner bag...now lid won't close. It's stuck at 90 degree angle. Is a button to release it?

Hi bndennis,

Please check the spring on your lid, it may be keeping the door open. Miele vacuum cleaners mainly use a spring concept for keeping lids open - merely pushing it down will lock it at the bottom.

Kind Regards :-)

If the motor is still hot the reset button will not respond. Let it cool for maybe 30 minutes. Then press it.

Dust bag was full and have changed it but not getting proper suction since bag change - why?

The extension tube is probably blocked. Check for suction with all the tubes off - if there is suction now then the tubes are blocked - be carefull not to damage them if you poke things in the unblock them.

How to take apart to replace power cord

Hello,

In order to access the cord on the Miele S183 upright, you'll need to first remove the handle from the vacuum cleaner. There is a large screw that holds the handle in place that is located under neath of the lower cord wrap hook. Simply remove this screw, and slide the off the vacuum by pushing the handle towards the back of the machine.

Once you have the handle removed, now ope the bag door as if you were going to replace the vacuum bag. You'll see two screws directly above where the bag fits inside of the machine. These two screws will open up the switch and cord housing and give you access to the electrical cord.

You'll see that there are two screws that secure the cord as it comes into the vacuum from the back. Remove both of these screws so that the cord is no longer secured. I think the easiest way to replace this cord is to simply cut the cord (MAKE SURE THE VACUUM IS UNPLUGGED) so that there is about 4-5 inches of the cord jacket (rubber coating around the cord) remaining. You may now just pull this cord jacket off of the cord, along with the paper insulation so you have two bare wires of the old cord. Now take your new cord and push it into the back of the vacuum so that it comes through the switch housing. Instead of having to re-secure the cord with the two screws, I've found that if you tie a small knot in the cord, this works just as well at preventing the cord from pulling through the back of the vacuum.

Simply strip the wires that are left from the old cord, and simply wire nut the new cord after tying a knot (or re-securing it with the two screws), and reassemble the vacuum cleaner. Test the vacuum only after putting the switch housing cover back into place.

Miele Revolution Vaccuum cleaner manual

Under the download section is the owners manual. This is for the same series Miele that you have so this manual will have most everything you need to know. The black filter is a charcoal filter, this is good if you want to control the odor but don't have allergies. If you have allergies you might wont to get a HEPA filter. I would recommend changing the filter every 6 months to a year. You need to use the empty filter when you want to use it as a blower. The hose will not fit into the opening with the HEPA or charcoal filter in place. I hope this helps.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I am not familiar with the light system on the Miele Revolution 5000 Power Plus

But it has something to do with the electronic hose assm or the circuitry in the vacuum itself. I have listed the factory phone # listed below for your further information. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
