If the width is shrinking, check also if the edges are now distorted too.
If so, there is a 'bipolar' capacitor in the high voltage section that is failing.
To find and verify this, you will need a meter that can measure capacitance, and perferably, DF or losses of capacitors as well.
If you ignore this, the horizontal will continue to shrink until the deflection stops completely and can cause other, more costly parts to fail although these may also be weakened and failing.
I'm afraid this is not a DIY problem.
