Question about Sony Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a Sony Vaio UX380 Micro PC. I am extremely happy with this little computer, but I had just a few questions that I would like to ask. (1) I have seen sites post RAM for the UX for sale; is there any way at all to add RAM to my UX380N? (2) is there any way possible to take out the 40 GB hard drive that came with it and put in a bigger hard drive? (3) I bought my Sony Vaio UX380 this past October, 2007 from an Ebay store, brand new in the box. I paid $1300.00 for it. Sony also has a UX490 for sale for $2400.00; Would it have been a better buy to have bought that one for $2500.00 versus the one that I bought? I have tried to research, and I see very little upgrades on the UX490 from my UX380, and the upgrades to me just doesn't justify the difference in price; but I wanted an expert's opinion on this. Please answer when you can, Thanks.

Google that model with the added word(s) memory upgrade and chose what you want. (2) again find out what upgrades for the hard drive keeping in mind that you will need to reinstall an operation system, Get yourself a usb hard drive to back up all the files you wish to keep. (3) that question depends on how much money you want to spend and what you use the laptop for. upgrades for laptops are somewhat limited but more memory and a larger hard drive a good ways to go (yes size does matter with hard drives)

Sony Vaio PCG-7X2L laptop has wireless on/off switch on the right side of computer base. Switch seems to be faulty. Any way to correct/replace/eliminate switch would be appreciated. Don't know why the need...

You can replace the switch. You will most likely need to send it in to Sony, or take it to a computer repair shop in your area. Laptops can be pretty touchy on the inside since every thing is micro sized. I would rather have you let a professional repair it than have you fix it yourself. Unless your experienced in micro-electronics, then just order a new WiFi switch from Sony parts and accessories. Heres their website: https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/index.jsp

Hi. Thanks for your question.
There's few things you can do to reverse this. First i would try is to restore system to previous date. To do this follow these steps.
1. Restart machine and while starting up back again press F8 key.
2. Once screen with question what you would like to do choose "safe mode" and press enter.
3. When in safe mode go to Start--->All Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools---> System Restore
4. Choose the date when computer was working well and press Restore.
In few minutes it should be working back again. Please don't hesitate to ask more if further assistance is needed. Good Luck

SONY VAIO

Save Data if possible.

Use Restore System; Restore Computer to Factory "New" Condition.. Sont Vaios have a Key Prompt which you hold down while booting and the Replacement Software already on a Sector of the Hard Drive. Check THe Manuel for this OR CALL SONY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND JUST GIVE THEM THE MODEL NUMBER AND ASK THEM WHICH BUTTON YOU PUSH ETC TO RESTORE THE COMPUTER TO "FACTORY CONDITION"

Questionable UPDATE install on PC

Not sure what the update could be, but to very its not a virus, try this FREE online tool. It is EXTREMELY good and removes viruses and malware that even Norton cannot. Remember to do a full system scan. May take a while, but is well worth it:

Vaio and micro sd

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Since you have verified that the card works (in your phone) and that the adapter works (in another computer), then the issue could very well be with the Sony VAIO VGN-C140G/B. More specifically, the USB ports/drivers. Presumably that the Sandisk 2Gb Micro SD & the adapter were working before and that you are using Windows Vista, pls check your updates that has anything to do with USB. Alternately, you may want to rollback/downgrade the USB drivers and/or seek USB driver update from the Sony site rather from Microsoft.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for your continued patronage of FixYa.

Buyin laptops

No Problem, I am here to help. There are many computer brands out there, but the top Three brands are

1:Sony
2:HP
3:Alien ware.

If you are looking for a computer that get any job done fast, choose the Sony Vaio. If you are a person that have a lot of music and likes to download Movies off the internet and watch them, choose the HP one. But if you are one of those people that play games on their computer all day and you are looking for extremely good graphics, chose the alien ware (which might be a little expensive.)
