Question about Hoover Refrigerators

2 Answers

I have a Hoover Contour fridge/freezer HE513TF that started tripping the circut breaker last week. I was told the problem could be related to the defrost heater, so I disconnected it while leaving the thermostat still connected. The motor worked for a couple of hours and then stopped but didn't trip the RCD this time. Concluding that the heater was the problem I orederd a replacemnet which I have not received yet. While waiting for the part, I have noticed something that confuses/bothers me: With the heater disconnected all the time, when I leave the thermostat connected, the defrost timer stops the compressor when it clicks (or the dial gets to 12 o'clock)and does not move anymore. I then have to advance it mannually to get it going again. The timer then operates normally but does the same thing again when it has completed a whole revolution which takes a few hours. When I disconnect the thermostat, however, the timer dial stops turning altogether and therefore never cuts out the power to the compressor. Is this normal? Does the timer need both the heater and the thermostat to be present in the circuit to work properly or I have a faulty timer as well? Do you have a schematic diagram for this fridge? Your help will be much appreciated.

Main residual circuit breaker trips fridge approximately every 12 hours

normal fridge takes 7- 12 amps to start, if after 12 hours it trips i would lean towards a compressor issue. once it heats up the comp. may draw alot of amps causing it to trip. is it the only item on that circut? does it still trip being alone on the circut?

Sounds like a shorted heater. You advanced manully, unit runs till timer goes to defrost. Timer contacts switch, defrost heater shorted trips breaker.

Hoover Contour HE423UFL fridge freezer continually frosts over?

I am on my fourth timer for this problem. Seems to fix the problem each time. You must remove the big chunk of ice covering the drain hole before you operate the fridge with the new timer. The contacts in the timer get burnt due to arcing inside the switch. The heating element seems to always work ok, but if the element is no good the fridge will not defrost.

No power while plugged

It probably has a circuit breaker located on the bottom of the fridge, behind the front filter. Also try looking inside the refridgerator side at the top. It may be red colored to indicate it is safety-related. Just push it in - but don't be surprised if it trips again.

WARNING: RESET ONLY ONCE TO AVOID A FIRE OR ELECTROCUTION SITUATION.

You may have an internal problem, in which case the freezer's circuit breaker is your best friend!

Note that the self-defrosting freezers have a timer that shuts them off periodically so they can defrost. Sometimes the timer does the defrosting in the middle of the day, giving the appearance of a failure. This could be your problem.

Hoover contour fridge leaking

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

Everytime I plug in the power cord, it trips the breaker.

Refrigerators are not designed to run on a GFCI. Try a heavy duty extension cord to the fridge from a outlet that is not GFCI protected. If it still trips you probably have a short circuit in the compressor.

Bottom freezer not working

Hi, sorry I do not have any advice to offer. We have the same model. Three weeks ago the red light came on and freezer stopped working. Last week the fridge packed up. We may have been unlucky but I thought it might be worth mentioning incase they were related and your fridge gave up as well.
