Question about Casio Cassiopeia E-125 Pocket PC

Universal Remote software?

Has anyone seen a Universal Remote software package that will work with the E-125? All the ones I see for any Casio are for ARM processors only, not MIPS. If you have found one, is it any good? Hard/easy to use? Do you have to be sitting right on top of the TV to use it?

Re: Universal Remote software?

You cannot find remote software for E-125 simply because the range of the IR emitters on E125 is simply too short. If you are willing to di some surgery on the device - switch it for a higher range one from say E-100 - the earlier versions software should work on E-125 also.

Sounds like you might have a bad cable or something. Did you try plugging ppc into its power pack while using the cable?

E-125 dark screen

Bingo! You hit the problem on the head. If you can still see an image, albeit extremely faint, and the Casio is still working, i.e. playing an mp3 file or whatever, then you definitely have a problem with the backlight. More times than not, this is either a daughterboard problem or a connection problem (rarely have I seen an actual bulb failure though it can happen). One of the more common causes is the tiny ribbon cable connector on the daughterboard. You might try to disassemble it, clean the contacts of the ribbon and reassemble the device. I've also heard of people squeezing in the side of the case to temporarily effect repairs...this is normally more ominous.

Synching Groupwise with a Cassiopeia BE300

Check out Intellisync 5.01. It works for us, but it definitely is not as simple as with a Palm. There are a few quirks, but it does work. My biggest complaint was that you have to manually copy their "Windows CE Autorun Manager" to your startup folder or the Groupwise info. will not automatically be sync'd everytime you sync with ActiveSync. In their defense though, I think most of the issues are because of ActiveSync.

CASIO E-125 has no backlight

Pretty common problem, and is normally one of three possibilities: 1. Ribbon cable that connects the backlight daughterboard to the motherboard connector has gone bad, or contacts oxidized. 2. Daughterboard itself has gone bad... 3. Power problem or cpu problem not activating upon powerup. Not as likely. 4.The fluorescent tube itself may has blown. The cure: carefully disassemble your 125, clean the ribbon contacts on both ends of the tiny ribbon cable, be careful, it is very fragile. If that doesn't work, find someone who has a E125 and swap out ribbon cables and see that works, that will at least tell you if the cable is bad or not. If that doesn't work, swap out daughterboards. If that doesn't work, sell it for parts on EBay and buy a new one, because anything else will probably be too expensive.

CASIO E-125 no backlit

Usually the ribbon cable connection that powers the backlight is the problem. If you remove the four screws in the back and take off the back cover. (note that there are two tabs on both sides of the cover half way up)You can see the white ribbon cable on the left above the battery back housing. Gently wiggle it and see if the backlight goes on. The cable is attached with a small brown insert that holds it in. It is removable so you might be able to get an electronics shop to replace the cable connection or the cable itself.

E-125 connecting to Siemens ME 45

There are 2 things you could try. If you have a serial data cable for both the devices try using a nul modem (Casio part # SB-91 includes best nul modem ever made ) & select Hayes compatible on serial port on E-125. If you have a built in modem in ME-45 it should work. Similarly you could use MS Outlook as an intermediary for transferring your E-125 telephone numbers to ME-45.

Casio pocket pc calendar doesn't show appointments that were syncronized from outlook: If I sync with outlook, the appointments I add on the Casio E-125 show in outlook, but the ones I add in outlook...

The Menu: VIEW - Categories option at the bottom, has all categories checked off. However, the logic dictates that it will only show the categories checked off, and if any appointment (appointments being made in outlook are not categorized) with no category would not show in the pocket pc. The logic written into the software, is, if no categories are checked off, then it will show ALL appointments. It would be nice if there was an option in the category view menu to SHOW ALL, but there isn't. You just have to uncheck all the categories.

Anyone experience problems with an overclock E-125?

There are some overclocking programs available like through www.jimmysoftware.com or even hardware fixes. The one by jimmysoftware is for the iPAQ only. iPAQ Overclocking software I would strongely avoid doing the hardware fix. The overclocking applies only to the processor itself and does not take into account the I/O from the the processor to the various other hadrware components. Some games, video, and apps may perform better but anything hardware related like PC card or CF cards that have a function like modem, networking etc. . . can run into timing related issues and not function. At least the software version can be easily removed. Good luck
