Question about Cobra 19 DX IV CB Radio

Static and Recieving Problem

I just bought the CB and the antenna recommended by Cobra for it, and I installed it. However I can only get static and every so often hear someone, no matter what channel I'm on. I have it wired to the fuse panel as the book suggested and the antenna is magnetic and I have it mounted on the trunk. Any way of fixing this problem?

Even though cobra recomended this enteana for this radio does'nt excuse the fact that you definetlly need to check and adjust the (swr) standing wave ratio. I would also suggest you placing the enteana at the highest point in the center of the roof. Check the (swr) with an external meter not the one in the radio, and adjust the enteana accordinglly. SWR readings higher than 3.0 can damage your finals and have adverse effects on your receive capabilites.

Make sure people are talking on the channel it may be no one is talking . the static tells you it is receiving something. the cobra 19 and sister radio magnum sold at wallyworld are notorious for having bad solder joints on their boards.

Can't pick up any talk on my cobra 75 ws xt cb radio

Was your antennae set up professionally? You may have a short in the cable or connections or even a bad antennae and/or a bad match. Was it matched with an SWR meter? Have these checked out because it does sound like an antennae or cable/connector issue.

How do you have it installed? in a vehicle? or in a building. What power supply configuration are you using? Is it adequately earthed/grounded? What type of antennas do you have? waiting for your info :)

Red antenna warning indicator light stays on

The red light is a warning of antenna mismatch; when you hold the antenna, you are changing the match between the CB's output amplifier and the antenna. Try it with a different antenna or pick up a 'test light' (or test load) for CBs from an electronics dealer, I've also seen them with CB accessories at truck stops. If the test light fires off and the red light on the CB is dark, the antenna you have is junk.

Excessive static equally on all chanels on cb

You should always connect the CB directly to the battery as the accessory socket is full of noise. You also should choose a better antenna as these small glass mounts cannot hear signals well and magnify local noise. AM (CBs) radios naturally pick up noise as it is the nature of AM signals. Use your squelch to lesson this but too much can knock out you reception.

Cobra 150 GTL DX, nothing but static

if the radio is quiet with the engine off then i suggest first to rig up a way to temp.hook it directly to the battery.if this works then look around the fuse panel to see if it has a battery direct hook up.they sell noise filters,but i have never had much luck with them.i don't believe the antenna is the problem at all.

if the antenna warning indicator is lighting during transmission then the antenna is either located and.or installed improperly or a defect exists in the antenna mount or the feedline itself, including connectors.

Cobra 75 wx st

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls a couple of ideas you may want to consider/explore or try/check:
  • PA/CB switch must be to CB;
  • RF Gain max clockwise;
  • Squelch counter clockwise;
  • Volume to your desired level;
  • Mute (off);
  • external speaker/speaker connection;
  • audio amp, verify if there is TX modulation;
  • antenna, antenna cable. SWR should be low.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate this at all. Cheers.
