Monitor going to sleep at startup

When I turn my computer on, my monitor remains in sleep mode. If I turn the monitor off then back on while the computer is on then "Monitor Status No Input Signal" comes up, then the monitor says "Monitor Going to Sleep" and off it goes!

We tried the monitor on another computer and it worked fine. Also, I can put a CD into the computer and hear the music played through the speakers on the monitor.

Any suggestions?

The computer is an HP Pavilion m7690e. It came with XP and I installed Vista Home Premium on it over a year ago.

Thank you both! It's late so all I have tried is to remove the CMOS battery. It didn't work. I'll try some more things tomorrow. If you think of anything else, please pass it on.

Thank you! I may try that today.

It seems that the computer itself has a problem... Try to remove the memory, clean the contact points and insert them back, do that to other components like the video card, modem card, sound card... Try also to change the CMOS battery, I change my battery every year, sometimes this is the culprit. So I hope this helps....

Keep us posted if it doesn't work. Have a nice day.

IT is most probably windows 7 issue. I saw problem with desktop computers coming back from sleep for many times.

I advice you to avoid sleep. If that is not issue, first test memory, cause sleep stores everything to the memory.

Please tell which OS you use ? As said on start it might be Windows 7 ...

Here is artical I found on how to disable sleep mode on a monitor, this would be for VISTA or 7, if you are using XP it's a bit different. ____________________________________________________________ How to Disable Sleep Mode on a Monitor

Your computer monitor or laptop screen will enter sleep mode after your computer remains idle for a set period of time. You can disable sleep mode if you prefer the screen to remain illuminated. You merely need to change a setting in the Windows Power Management properties box.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy Instructions

  1. Click "Start" and "Control Panel".

  2. Click "System and Security" and "Power Options". This will bring up a new dialog box.

  3. Click the menus to the right of "Turn off the Display" and set them both to "Never". This will disable sleep mode.

Monitor wont come out of sleep mode

One possiblility will be the failing power supply due to bad caps (leaking/bulging tops). You can take a look inside first before making the decison to buy a new one or not.

I stoped the monitor from sleeping by going into the montitor's menu, management, then sleep. Turn on the never allow to sleep mode. We were having some of your mentioned issues with the icons and with the monitor not waking up. This fixed that. Now the computer will go to sleep and when started the monitor comes on instantly.

My monitor goes to sleep and doesn't come back on.

For that when you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in enable vga mode .
Then go to display property and set screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply and ok.
if still not work then try safe mode then uninstall graphic driver and reinstall.
When you power up the computer press F8 key untill you see windows logo.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Hp w1907 Monitor problems

Sorry to her about your Monitor problems.
In the feature it would help to know what kind of monitor, the brand and model.
If this is a option, turn the monitor on, when you get image on the screen, press the menu key and scroll around until you find factory setting.
Restore to factory setting may bring the unit back and out of sleep status.
Try it, it may work..!!!
