Cleaning the thermal grease and doing a trick with few pennies doesn't solve anything, the problem is that the soder between the Cpu / gpu and the mainboard melted during overheating and is not making the proper contacts the only way for you to fix it at home is to overheat the console again with the heatsinks loosened a bit so the components have room to move a millimeter or less to the right position and the console will work again. If not, read the secondary error code by pressing the controller reconnect button down together with the eject disc button, the flashing code will change, write down how many leds are flashing, then press the buttons again, and write down how many are flashing, repeat 3-4 times until your back into the "Red right of death". Tell me code you got, for example 4422 (4 digits)

I have one red light flashing on my xbox 360. how can i fix it?

If you have a hard drive, clearing the cache might resolve the one red light error. Also, you can try to remove the hard drive and power on the Xbox 360 Console without the hard drive to see if the red light will still occur. If it doesn't appear it is the hard drive causing the error and needs replacement, if it does flash the red light still, it is a hardware failure in your Xbox already.

Still get 3 rings after xclamp fix and applied arctic silver 5

Take your metal case, and drill holes big enough to fit 5m diameter x 16mm tall screws. Put them all up through the holes and add 3 steel washers to each post. then add 1 nylon washer. >>>make sure you do the penny fix or replace the thermal pads before you place your motherboard inside the case<<< Place your motherboard inside of the case ( you can use tape on the back side of the metal case to hold screws in place; may want to do that before you add washers) add 1 nylon washer then 1 steel washer to each. Take off microsoft's bolts from the heat sinks and re-apply a ssmmmallll amount of thermal paste (size of a piece of rice for the big ones). Attach everything and you will be good to go.

Penny Trick- Take 2 pennys, wrap them one way with electrical tape, then turn 90 degrees and wrap them again so no copper is showing. >>You will need 4 sets of 2 pennys<< Flip your motherboard over and peal off the white things with band-aid looking squares on top of them. Peal the band-aid looking squares off and apply your tape-wrapped pennys.

Note: If you do not have these puddy-looking things on your ram chips, Use some hot glue, not a lot though.

You may also need to "bake" your 360. When you are all said and done with applying and bolting things. Take your 360 and put everything in except the fan. Take the fan plug it in its spot, then lay it diagonally from its plug, ontop of the tall cpu heatsink. Turn your xbox on for about 15 minutes. Let it over heat good so it can reset itself flat. Turn if off and let it cool down for about 20 minutes. Put everything back together and enjoy your console as your paid for it! smile.gif

I have 3 red lights with no noice from console

The towel trick should work if not you would need to replace the motherboard as the sensors have gone out in it, the sensors trigger the fans in this regard, I along with you have done this with 300 xbox 360 notice the microsoft next to my name. I am not looking for fame or glory but a solution for you if you tried the copper penny trick also then I would be looking at the motherboard as the issue.

Xbox 360 has 1 ring of death on it and I cant get it off.

ONLY USE THESE TRICKS IF YOUR WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT!

Use two of these three steps (Use the third step at your own RISK)

1.The penny trick works for three red lights thn you might get a 074 error (video below)
Penny Trick:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsz0lNJ6JrQ

2.Use after the Penny trick (Also for other errors such as 074 and maybe other errors)
The towel trick:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31tvXu34T8Q

You can keep using step two FOR 074 ERROR or use the step below at your own RISK!

3.Here is another way to fix 074 if it reoccures
(Never tried because of the x clamps i'm to scared of wrecking the 360 motherboard but i bet it fixes the 360 074 by taking the heatsink off and putting it back on)

Help plz

I suggest using three copper pennies per Ram chip.
Use a slight amount of reusable adhesive to stick the pennies together and then to adhere to the ram chips. Note: Do not screw the black screws back onto the bottom of 360, just the silver screws.
Also use pennies made before 1983, they're %100 Copper and make better heat sinks.
If you don't know what i'm talking about check youtube.
