How to you connect to the serial port to a DSR2010?

the 2010 is a legacy KVM DSR, and you might not have the same features that are present on the 8035 model. the settings to connect to the 2010 with a NullModem cable are 9600, 8, none, 1, none (same as Cisco settings).

The 8035 comes with a special adaptor which is DB9 to RJ45 and it comes in the box.

I hope that answers your question.

As far as console logs goes, no such thing on the DSR line.

How do you connect to a terminal with avocent dsr8035

Hi there,

You should have a DB9 to RJ45 converter in the box. This converter is used to change from DB9 serial to RJ45, which is the port on the DSR that is used to connect to the serial console.

Should you do not have such connector, call Avocent Tech Support, they will help you to get that converter.

The NullModem Cable might also be requiered

Hi Steven,

the power is or will be needed. Your unit is a single monitor... are you trying to make it a dual screen setup?

What is the target OS... ? How are you connecting *(USB or PS2) to the PC?

-If you use PS2 you might have to reboot your PC
Is the PC DVI or VGA?

I hope that helps getting you up and running

I can't reset the DSR8035 to factory default values. I am connecting using a null modem cable through COM port 1 on my laptop. The HyperTerm settings I am using are 9600 8-N-1. I don't get a...

ehm the 8035 doesn't have a comp port but an RJ 45 port, the unit comes with a rollover cable and an Avocent Adaptor which should be used to access the unit.

The parts are the following items:

540-604-501 Adapter [RJ-45 to DB-9 DCE Female]; equivalent to Equinox 210095
540-605-501
Cable [RJ-45 Reversing Modular Cable]; equivalent to Equinox 690226

Need driver for CISCO DB9 TO RJ45 6FT CABLE 72-3383-0 for my notebook

If I am understanding correctly, you are using a serial to ethernet cable. The serial cable plugs into your laptop and the ethernet end plugs into the CONSOLE port on the Cisco.

From here you use a terminal emulation program like "Hyperterminal" to connect via the serial port. As long as your serial port is installed, no other drivers are necessary.

I can't configure my CPS1600

the CPS600 is controlled and configured with the java based vConsole software. vConsole is provided by Avocent. I personally haven't worked with Avocent hardware much myself, but from what I can tell CPS1600 is designed for a UNIX based network. It should work on a windows networks as well, but you may need to do the CCM firmware conversion or update the CPS firmware to enable the device to communicate with a windows machine. I would recommend to forget about using hyperterminal and try the vconsole software, and if your still having trouble, then go for the firmware update and the ccm conversion as a last resort. Here is the link to the Avocent site, you should be able to find all the necessary software & firmware there. If you do end up needing a Unix system to configure the device, you should be able to get away with using the knoppix livecd linux distribution. Its a bootable cd with a fairly user-friendly version of linux.

Connecting to console

The proper way to console to a switch (at least as far as Cisco Catalyst Switches are concerned) is a rollover cable and a DB9 adapter... I then use HyperTerminal to connect..

What type of switch are you connecting to, and what kind of hardware are you using?

I always use Cisco for networking (Cisco is the king of switches and routers).. here is their step by step for connecting to one of their swtiches:
