Question about Digital Cameras

1 Answer

To adjust the focus on the camera you are suppose to press the shutter button halfway down and it will lock your focus in and then press the shutter button again and take the picture. It was working fine and the next time I turned my camera on this option would not work. I try the press the shutter button down halfway the it does nothing. All I can do now it press it all the way to take the picture. I have an Olympus E-420 digital SLR camera.

You cannot take a picture when your camera has not been focused yet. This is done by pointing your selected focus point on your subject, then click the shutter button halfway / half-pressed until you here a beep or see a dot on the lower left portion of your viewfinder. Once you have locked your focus, press the shutter button all the way down to take the shot.

I have a brand new nikon coolpix s3000. it's on full-time auto focus. Any ideas?

You can change this in the menu while in shooting mode. This is from page 48 of the manual:

Choose how the camera focuses.

A (auto) M d (Shooting menu) M I Autofocus mode

A Single AF (default setting)

The camera focuses when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway.

B Full-time AF

The camera focuses continuously until the shutter-release button is pressed down

halfway. Use with moving subjects. The sound of lens drive movement will be heard

while the camera focuses.

How to get manual focus on Olympus Camedia C-750 ultra zoom digital camera

TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTITf correct focus cannot be obtained
When the subject to be focused is not on the AF target mark (not positioned
in the center of the composition), you can use the following steps to obtain the
correct focus on the subject. This operation is referred to as "focus lock".
Determine the position of the subject after focusing (Focus Lock)
1 Press the power switch.
• The camera turns on in the shooting
mode.
• The lens extends and the monitor turns
on.
• The orange lamp lights.
2 Turn the mode dial and select a
shooting mode.
"Shooting mode" (P.36)
3 Position the AF target mark on
the subject you want to focus on.
• When shooting a hard-to-focus
subject, point the camera at an object
about the same distance away as the
subject.
Press the shutter button halfway
until the green lamp lights.
• When the green lamp lights steadily,
the focus and the exposure are locked.
• When the green lamp blinks, the focus
and exposure are not locked. Release
your finger from the shutter button, reposition
your subject and press the
shutter button halfway again.
5 Keeping the shutter button
pressed halfway, recompose
your shot.
6 Press the shutter button fully.
Try the above, info from D-535, C-370 and X-450.
I can email you the complete manual if this works.
Regards
Phillip

The camera takes too long to take a photo. What should I do?

Press the shutter button halfway and hold it to set the focus, then press it the rest of the way down to take a photo. If you press the shutter button down all the way at once, it takes time to focus and set the exposure before the shutter releases. It may take longer than when pressing the shutter button in two steps.

Focus modes

There are four focus modes: S-AF (Single auto focus), C-AF (Continuous auto focus), MF (Manual Focus), and S-AF/MF (Simultaneous mode). (SINGLE Auto Focus): Focusing is performed once when the shutter button is pressed halfway. C-AF (CONTINUOUS Auto Focus): The camera repeats focusing while the shutter button is pressed halfway. (MANUAL FOCUS): The function allows you to manually focus on any subject while looking through the viewfinder. SIMULTANEOUS USE of S-AF mode and MF mode: You can fine-adjust focus manually by turning the focus ring after AF is performed in the S-AF mode.

Focus on a particular subject

Try the FOCUS LOCK feature. This feature allows you to focus on a subject roughly the same distance away from you, then re-compose your picture without losing that focus. Open the lens barrier fully. Look through the viewfinder at the AF Target Mark (the 4 lines in the center of the viewfinder). Position the AF Target Mark on a subject roughly the same distance away from you. Press the shutter button halfway until the green lamp lights. While keeping the shutter button pressed halfway, re-compose your picture, then press the shutter fully.

Cannot focus on a particular subject

If the camera is having a difficult time auto-focusing, you can try the FOCUS LOCK feature. This feature allows you to focus on another subject roughly the same distance from you and then move the camera back to the intended subject and take the picture without losing focus. First, turn the camera on and locate the Autofocus Target Mark in the center of the LCD. The AF Target Mark resembles an open and close bracket [ ]. Position this AF Target Mark on a subject roughly the same distance away as the subject the camera is having trouble focusing on. Press the shutter button halfway enabling the lens to focus. While holding the shutter button halfway down, aim the camera at the original subject and press the shutter button all the way down.
