I have the same problem please let me know how you fixed it if you have. Today my picture went out like it shut off but still had the sound. My light flashes green when I turn it on now but still no picture. I owned it less then 2 years ugh.

I also have a 42 in. plasma tv from LG and had turned the tv for 10 min.when i herd a click behind the tv and the picture went off, but the sound was still there. I bought the tv in december of 2007, I still have warranty under LG so its getting fixed as we speak. Also have 2 more years of warranty under Best Buy, I just hope it does`nt happen again. Im very dissapointed with LG.

Same problem here. 2 months after expiration of warranty!

Found a blown fuse on one panel. Replaced it, now tv turns on, but turns off after few seconds (right before picture would appear normally).

    Not happy :(

You know what's funny...I bought mine in August 2006...mine is doing the SAME exact thing...

Same problem.  I bought in November of 2006...  I was watching TV today when the picture suddenly went black.  You can still see some screen burn from the channel designator in the lower left, but other than that no picture.

Same problem. I was watching TV and heard a pop. My picture lost all resolution and had black smudges on the display. The LG authorized service people told me the panel was shot. I purchased this unit in December 2006. Still under warranty. I hope they resolve it quickly. Not too confident with LG service pr products after hearing some of the horror stories.

Have LG 42PC3D - same problem - popping noise and suddenly a very, very faded picture with sound -- happened this evening. Have owned this set 26 months. Was very happy with it until this evening - excellent picture - but useless now. WTF? Looks like LG stuck a lot of us with a lemon!! I read on another forum of serious problems with the boards in LG plasmas. No more LG for me - back to Mitsubishi -- best TV I ever owned - should have stayed with what I know works best.

Same Problem, Popping Noise then very faint picture. Item is 22 Months old and has 2 Months left on warrantee. They are coming to fix under wrrantee.

Follow-up as of 11-8-08 to my problem above. Called LG Customer Service, explained problem, dude asked when I bougt TV, model #, and serial number. Then put me on hold for 3-4 minutes, came back and said per his supervisor they will honor the warranty though I am two months past the two year purchase date. He asked me to fax my receipt, and I did, said they will get back in touch with me to arrange Service Center repair. Will keep this board posted on how it goes, but so far they appear willing to fix the problem.

    SOUND BUT NOT PICTURE

  • kwagner33 Jan 01, 2009

I purchased the LG 42 in plasma tv model 42PC3D in August 2006. I was watching the tv yesterday and hearl a loud pop noise and had no picture just sound. I called the LG customer service # in my manual and customer service basically told me "sorry, your warranty has run out by 5 months" and gave me a local service #. I think this is terrible for the amount of money my tv cost me. Shame on you LG!

Follow-up to warranty call - LG 42PC3d - was two months past warranty, but LG agreed to fix the 'sound, but no picture' problem under the warranty. Service dude was out within a week to replace the Z SUS(?) board - no cost to me. Works fine now. This must be a typical problem on LG plasma's using this board - perhaps a bad part from their vendor at time of manufacture. I have been really happy with this LG plasma -- great picture at a good price, and I have to say I am impressed that LG took care of the problem, even though technically they were not required too. One reason I decided on the LG initially was the better warranty from LG - two years - and it looks like my judgment call on this paid off. If I get two more years out of it, and it goes bad again, oh well -- it will be time for dude to buy another TV with new and improved features by then anyway. Thank you LG. Good luck to the rest of you dudes.

We had the same problem with a Sanyo plasma tv that we've had for about 20 months. With some direction from another board we were able to remove the back and change 3 fuses (http://www.highdefforum.com/flat-panel-tvs/46352-sanyo-vizon-wont-power-up-all-sudden.html )
it is working for the time being....though the picture seems to have shifted slightly to the left. The repair company was going to replace something that would have cost us upwards of $300....for about $6 we were able to, at least temporarily, take care of it.

GOOD LUCK!

I have the same problem.  I bought mine in November of 2006, so I'm still within the 2 year warranty.

One of the SUS panels will be defect. On these panels you will find several fuses, the panel with the broken fuse must be replaced.
Sus panels are the panels with the big cooling blocks.

Hi there
I would go to menu on the remote , from there to picture go down the list, if you do not find anything there to help you. Go to Support and to the E manual .

Most likely what happened is one of the capacitors went bad. When a capacitors goes bad it produces a popping sound. This could be an easy and cheap fix if you find the bad capacitor or capacitors. The bad capacitor will have a bulging top most likely on the power board but could be anywhere.

Lg plasma 42PC3D no picture with sound

I know you already replaced the board, this is for future searchers. If you heard a popping sound, then the picture went out, there is a 32 pin Sanyo module that goes bad on the board. That's probably what caused the fuse to blow. Replace the module, then replace the fuse. The module is less than half the cost of a used board. Since this was a popular model TV, there are lots of replacement boards on the used market.
