Wireless adapter computer(laptop) owner was having difficulty trying to install vista service pack 1, it kept giving her an error and would close. For her to get on to the schools network she needed SP 1. So eventually the computer was booted up and hitting F8 an option came up to fix errors, we proceeded and eventually it worked and the computer rebooted, and installed SP1. But now the computer doesn't read that is has a wireless connection what so ever, even if you turn it on or off on the shell of the computer the light doesn't even come on...please help

You need to reinstall the drivers for the wireless card. If you give me the exact make and model of the computer I can send you the link where you can download the driver for free. If you need expert help doing this send me an email with your number and I will call you and walk you through the procedure. I have a BA in Computer Science and I do this for a hobby. I just like helping people so there will be no charges to you at all. Make sure you send me the exact make and model of the computer and ant service tag number or serial numbers to ensure I direct you to the proper driver. It's pretty straight forward. I'll send you the link and you just download the drivers on another computer, place the install file on a thumb drive or cd and run it on the computer in question. Once the proper drivers are installed your problem will be solved. I hope you find this helpful.

Based on your description, you are savvy enough to set up wireless connection and would understand the terminology and steps that I am going to share with you. The following steps applies, you may want to:
· Uninstall all drivers for wireless devices without restarting your computer.
· Then, turn off your computer.
· Remove side panel and Uninstall/remove old wireless card physically. Close side panel.
· Turn on computer.
· Open Windows Wireless Manager. Fig.1.

· Delete all saved wireless connection profiles.
· Close all windows then install your USB wireless adapter. Follow step by step in the instruction manual. Make sure you install the appropriate driver for your Windows version.
· Set up your wireless connection as you normally do.

If the problem persists, You might want to change/replace your Linksys USB wireless adapter with a Netgear USB wireless adapter for compatibility reasons.

I have just bought a new computer and i am trying to install my linksys adapter to my new computer. it worked fine on the old 1, but is not working on the new 1. I am wondering what could be some problems

The WUSB54GSC adapter had been out of production for a while...the last driver update was for Windows XP in 2008 (for Version 2 devices). You should carefully examine the device to see if it is Version 1 or Version 2, as this is necessary when visiting the driver page.

If you're trying to use the adapter on a Windows 7 machine, and Windows 7 does not automatically install the driver, then you're pretty much out of luck as Linksys does not supply a Windows 7 driver for this unit. They don't list a Vista driver, either, although often XP drivers will transfer to Vista without difficulty.

So...if you're trying to install it on a Vista machine, try downloading/installing the XP driver for your device MAY work. If that does not work, or if it's a Win 7 machine, time for a new adapter.

Most new computers these days (at least laptops) have wireless built-in and don't need a USB adapter. I'm assuming, therefore, that you're using this on a desktop. If so, and you need a new one, very good quality ones can be had at WalMart for around $20. Just be sure whatever you buy is compatible to your operating system. It will be printed on the packaging.

Hope that's helpful.

Try installing service pack 3. I have found from experience that drivers that were not found with sp2 installed were suddenly located after install of sp3.

well..go to the website for that adapter, and get the latest drivers..the ones on that CD are most likely not up to date with the Service Pack 1 released on vista in last few months..
