I have a Panasonic DMR HS2 dvdrecorder which did work fine except when the dvd holding unit would get stuck and after when times of taking it apart I accidentally tore the about 2 1/2 inch ribbon cable that connects the dvd drive board to the rest of the unit. I need to replace this ribbon
cable .How does a electronics illiterate person look for num-
bers on the unit ? Some parts have specific numbers but
these connectors have nothing written on them as far as I can see.
I got no help. I just gave up. The 9.99 was just thrown away. I needed to find a cable for dvd recorder which connects to the
dvd drive and all they were telling me was stuff I had already done
and places I had already looked but still no part , part no. NO

Usually, the U11 error code in a Panasonic DVD player indicates an optical problem. You could of course try doing a cleaning using a CD cleaner normally readily from computer parts stores. Alternately, you can open the unit up and do a manual cleaning with soft bristle brush and/or cotton buds. Other than that, it could be indicative of a weakening laser eye which of course would require parts replacement.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you
Panasonic website under FAQs. Using code shown on dvd readout,
such as RC2, press 2 & enter or ok, hold for 2 seconds, and machine
will reset connection between remote & dvd recorder. So stupidly simple it works.
My remote is not working. When I press a button, I get the following message on my unit: U12, U30, SET #, CHK REMOTE #, or RC #. What can I do to fix this?
The message displayed means that the remote control and unit are not communicating and the remote needs to be programmed. To program the remote, press and hold the same number that is displaying on the unit and the [ENTER] or [OK] button for more than 2 seconds. For example, if the unit displays “SET 2”, press and hold and [ENTER] or [OK] for more than 2 seconds.
I'm pretty sure the force disk eject is the same across all Panasonic models - however I couldn't find anything specific for your model number. Still worth a shot, though.
With the unit in standby, press and hold the 'Stop' and 'Ch up' buttons together. It should power up and force the tray open. If this doesn't work, try changing up your timing by pressing and holding 'Stop' first, then a half-second later, press and hold 'Ch up' and keep them both held together. You can also try the opposite.
If none of these work, it will have to be taken apart to get the disc out. If you aren't comfortable trying, it will have to go to service.
