The chips on the cartridges, should be resetter to full. The newer Epson chips can't get a reset, so I would bring (or send) the bad ones back and ask for new ones.
Also make sure the contacts on the chip and in the pronter are clean and shiny.
If its belt driven, the belt had dislodged or broken off completely. If gear driven, the gear teeth had broken, so the gears needs replacement. If you purchased less than a year ago, find the store receipt or look up the purchase history on your bank/ credit card invoice archive and if it shows the product name and model number, then that's sufficient proof of purchase. Some retail stores like Walmart can printout a duplicate receipt if you know the exact date, time of purchase, and which register processed the transaction. When you have proof of purchase receipt, contact the manufacturer for address to return product to file 1-year warranty claim.

The only way to unlock one of these machines is to contact Epson and ask them for a Master Unlock Code. You will need ALL the machines details and they may ask for proof of purchase etc.
Getting a Master Code is an arduous task. It is an anti theft measure after all. Be prepared for the run around.
