Question about Dehumidifiers

1 Answer

Kenmore Dehumidifier Fan runs, but compressor won't kick in. I had the start capacitor checked and it's supposedly fine. Checked everything through continuity checks and can't find any problem. Resistance on compressor terminals seems very low. Does anyone have the resistance values for the triangle of terminals with everything disconnected from the compressor.

My Kenmore had the problem of the fan running, but not the compressor. The compressor overload part was bad.

Compressor runs and gets hot but fan will not kick on. Replaced the capacitor and that did not help. One side of coils gets hot, the other side gets cold, which seems normal. Just can't get the fan...

Don't run the compressor for any length of time without the fan operating. Is it possible that the fan must be replaced? Can you power the fan safely to test it?

Hi,
The compressor will not start when it is hot or it is no longer bleeding the pressure off fast enough on the high side of the refrigeration system and it cannot start under the load. The start relay and capacitor could also be bad...that would give the same symptoms...

Fan kicks on but compressor does'nt start. Humidity control checked out. Compressor ohmed out. Fan runs for about a minute then it shuts down.

i would do a continutity check on you relay and overload, other than that
what is the humidity level in the room, as well as the ambiant temp. these mahines cycle for that very reason, the fan will come on, do a check and then determine if it should start the compressor.
check if you have voltage at the compressor when its supposed to be running ( just a last thought)
ive seen compressors ohm out, but in fact be bad

Dehumidifier tripping the breaker

be very careful - with the unit unplugged - try shorting the capacitor with an insulated screwdriver. if you get a healthy spark - the cap is probably ok. if you don't replace the cap. the cap is used in the motor's start winding.
