LCD is acting weird

I have a canon sd750. about a month ago some soda spilled on it. I let it dry out to see if it would still work. the camera takes beautiful pictures still, i took some on my memory card and then looked at them on the computer.
Problem is, the LCD screen is mostly black with moving horizontal lines that go up and down. the backlight still works fine. I took it apart to see if i could see anything and I moved the ribbon around a bit. Then the screen showed all red.

Is the screen broken and needs replaced or can I still salvage the screen?

Hi

According to what you wrote Rsutton88, your LCD screen is shot and the rest of the camera is working perfectly fine. You said you can take pictures no problem, but the screen was exposed to liquid and is now black with horizontal lines... Clearly 'devilived' he cannot salvage the LCD, he already said it doesn't work.

If you find a defective camera online with a good LCD you can put that LCD in your caemra and it should be ok as long as there is no corrosion to the ribbon cable connector on the PCB. If that connector is corroded, don't even bother looking for an LCD it won't work because the corrosion will cause the connections to cross resulting in the scrambled display on your screen. Even a small scratch on the connectors on the ribbon cable and ruin the LCD!

Good luck from Darntoothysam com

Hi,
If the soda has gone inside the camera then you need to get it serviced or else the camera itself would die soon.If its not then u can go ahead and salvage the screen.

Canon Powershot sd750 screen completely not working

If you're up to doing the replacement yourself, you can order a new LCD assembly here. If not, you can take the camera to a reputable camera shop and have a trained professional do the replacement. A third alternative is to buy a new camera to replace the five-year-old SD750.

Is there anything to do for when soda pop gets in camera and it doesn't work

Its depend on the quantity of the soda or drink spilled on the camera you are using. Use the blower to dry the liquid and do not use it at least 10 to 12 hrs. Allow more time to drying.

Unfortunately with water damage the camera may work for a few days or even weeks after you first dry it out, but then it will stop working completely. If you have corrosion from water exposure then the camera is gone, it's not worth trying to fix. Even if you replace the main PCB it probably has damage to the lens, LCD screen and flash as well.

The camera will not turn on.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

Powering up a wet camera usually shorts out the circuits. Soda gets sticky as it dries and further complicates matters. Still later, the corrosive activity of the acid in the soda will eat its way through the circuits. I don't hold out much hope for your camera but if you want to take it in for repair and are willing to pay the expected high cost, go for it.

Canon Powershot SD750... battery or camera problem??

Try to clean the battery terminal inside the battery compartment, use barbecue stick with cotton buds with little drops of alcohol and rub the terminals. Also check the terminal spring, maybe it is loose or not pressing the battery enough.
