Hi,
Yes it will work that way. Just drill out the retaining clip in the ignition switch that holds the lock cylinder in place. Be care ful with the switch. The new lock will slide right in with key in start position. If it has a rectangular looking metal pin securing it, drill into the plastic part of the switch with a 5/32 drill bit about 1/2 inch back toward the lock cylinder to take out the pop rivet holding the spring loaded pin mechanism in place. The spring comes out and push the pin down with a flatblade and pull lock out......Mike

How do you get the ign out of a 2000 pontiac grand prix when you dont have a key

I haven't worked at a GM dealer since 1997,but all of the ignition cylinders I remember were secured with bolts that have a "break away"head. To remove the cylinder, you'll have to pull the airbag, steering wheel, and turn signal switch. If you're brave enough to do all of this, the cylinder bolts can be removed by using a cut off wheel with a thin blade to make a screwdriver slot in the bolt heads.I would recommend using a hand impact driver to then unscrew the bolts(a new cylinder will come with the bolts)

remove the steering coloum trim. Turn the key to run position, Press locking button on back of steering coloum housing assembly, Remove lock cylinder, Disconnect the ground strap from lock preload spring ( if equiped ) . Make sure key is still in run position when you reinstall.

If the key is non functional and you cannot turn to run then you will need the tool in this picture197ca25.gif

I have 07 Pontiac Grand Prix, the wrong key was inserted into the ignition the other day. Now when I try to use the correct key it will not insert completly in the ignition, goes in until last 1/4in of key. Im stuck, I bought the new lock cylinder but how do I get the old one out? I cant get the key to insert all the way so I cant get it to the "On" position, it will not turn at all. The key that was inserted in error is whole and nothing is missing it seems like there is something stuck. Any help would be appreciated...
