You might want to check if it's just a bad power connection first, because a new adapter isn't cheap. They cost about 60 bucks plus shipping from the HP parts department:

Before you shell out that kind of dough, I recommend you first eliminate the obvious like a bad surge suppressor or power strip. Sometimes, one of the outlets in a multi-outlet power strip can go bad and cause just one of the devices plugged in to lose power. It actually happened to me once with a brand spanking new surge suppressor I purchased and I had to go back to the store and get it replaced under the warranty. So, be sure to check by plugging your printer into a different outlet.

If nothing's wrong with your power strip and AC power cord, the next thing to check is the power connector that plugs into the back of your printer. It has three contacts on it, which means there are three points of failure. Unplug it and plug it back in. Wiggle the connector a little, mumble "I hate this stupid printer", and then observe the printer's power light.

Still nothing? Well, if you're feeling a little adventurous and have a basic understanding of how electronic circuits work, you can check the AC adapter to see if it's really dead. You do this by testing the DC outputs of the adapter with a multimeter. Don't have a multimeter? You can either borrow one from a geek friend, or buy your own for about twenty bucks at Radio Shack (get a cheapie model - nothing fancy). IMHO, everyone should own a multimeter. They come in handy for checking batteries and bad connections in low voltage wiring. After you learn to use one, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Anyway, getting back to the printer, the AC adapter has a dual DC voltage output with three pins. The center pin is ground and the two on either side are positive voltages (+36 volts and +16 volts). If the AC adapter is good, your multimeter will indicate at or slightly less than these voltages when tested, around +35v and +15v. A good voltage reading tells you that the AC adapter is probably okay. In that case, the problem is inside the printer itself and buying a new adapter would be a waste of money. At this point, it's pretty safe to conclude that the old mule has finally kicked the bucket.

Hope this helps.

Internal power supply has failed or the AC Adapter pack has failed have the AC Adapter tested by a qualified electrician and if faulty replace it if it is all good you will have to contact Nintendo Support to arrange for it to be returned and repaired at a small cost of course if it is outside warranty, I do not think they will charge you for the repairs if it is still inside warranty but they may charge you a small fee for shipping and insurance.

I cant get my printer to turn on

There are plenty of components that can fail internally that will cause this behavior and unfortunately inkjets are never cost effective to repair. I would recommend buying a new printer.

Printer wont turn on

Try to unplug the power adapter at the back of the printer and check if the LED light is on. If not, try to plug in the power cord to another power outlet. If still the same problem, the power adapter is the culprit.

If the LED light is on, make sure to plug in the power adapter all the way in the printer.

MFC-490CW two ink colours just not printing, it still prints biut just with black and blue, tried cleaning them the normal way but they still wont print. Cant get into maintenence mode to try better...

Powerful cleaning is: Press menu, then start black copy, then four times arrow-up quickly after another.Machine will be in maintenance mode (all lights will flash).
press 7-6-4 and OK (or start-black-copy).
When finished press 7-6-3 then start black copy,
printer will do a power purge.
Leave maintenance mode by pressing 9-9.
If this not help better think about new printer, because cost of repairing this one is profitable.

the power cord wire is faulty or the main board in the printer is faulty.

Wont power on

Try powering the system on with only the AC adapter, see if you get any power indications.

If you do not, then the system is not getting AC power.

See if the power adapter has an LED on it and if it is lit with the computer disconnected. If the LED doesn't come on at all, replace the adapter. IF the LED is on with the computer unplugged from it, then goes out when you plug it in, then try a new AC adapter.

If a new AC adapter doesn't resolve the problem, then you may want to look into buying a new computer as replacing the motherboard on this system may cost more than replacing the computer with a new system.
