Question about Fuji FinePix S3000 Digital Camera

1 Answer

'Zoom Error' Hi, I recently bought a Fuji FinePix s3000 Digital Camera. It took amazing pictures the first month or so, but recently I turned the camera on to find 'Zoom Error' across the LCD screen. I am unable to take pictures, and the lens wont Retract. I was hoping there would be a simple solution to this problem rather than a costly repair, seeing as how it was a very nice camera. Any Idea how to fix it?

Oh boy
you are not going to like this but this is a problem that all fuji finepix s3000 will have
I fixed it myself but only with a ton of patience and knowing what I was doing
the problem is that there is a gear in the lens motor asssembly that does not have a pin, I do not know why but i definitely know that there needs to be one right there because without a pin to hold the gear in place it will rattle around and lock up with its partner gear
I will give you these instructions on how to fix this
1. remove each of the outside screws
2. there will be two screws that are neither phillips nor flathead screws
to remove these i used a Dremel Hand Drill
3. then remove all the inside boards and battery compartment
4. to remove a "ribbon wire" lightly pull at the Blue end until it slides out of its plug
5. finally remove the lens assembly
6. remove the the boards connected to the lens but not any of the wires
7. DO NOT touch the CCD or the UV filters they are squarish and rainbow colored and shiny if you touch them at all just throw away your camera
8. given that you did not touch those objects you can now look for the white gear it is loose and just rattles around
9. grab a thumb tack and snip the big circle end off with wire cutters
10. you will have like a short little nail type thing
11. push it with you finger nail in to the tiny hole behind the gear, the pin will now be holding the gear loosely in place
12. hooray you fixed it now you just have to reassemble the whole camera JUST as you disassembled it, this is probably the hardest part
13. your done if you didnt break the camera while doing any of the above steps

I hope this helps
you're better off buying a new camera though seeing how the fuji finepix s3000 is only worth $30 now
it is a nice camera and im glad i fixed it I hope you can fix yours

Focus error? The camera won't focus. Focus Error is displayed in the viewing screen. Zoom action & everything else seems to work fine. Won't focus, won't take pictures.

This is a known issue with Fuji S3000 cameras caused by dust and dirt that get in through the loosely mounted lens mechanism, there are only three solutions.

  1. If under warranty you can send the camera in for repair.
  2. Saturate around the lens with WD40 and wiggle the lens until it becomes responsive again every month or so.
  3. Dismantle the camera and clean out around the internal gear-box and lens components about once a year.

Fuji Finepix Z1 Zoom Error

I saw another post in this forum were someone suggest banging it on a table a couple times, not to hard that you'd dent it but a good enough bang. Worked like a charm! I tried the trigger and slide method but while the error message went away the zoom wouldn't focus. Try banging it, it sounds bad but it worked wonders!

Fuji finepix s3000

This is an easy possibility, Try using an eraser on all the contacts for the batteries. The ones on the battery door and the ones inside the camera. Try to get them shiny, the harder white erasers work best. If that doesn't solve to power problem, the camera may have blown its power fuse internally. That repair would likely cost 50-60$

Zoom Error

We had the same problem with a Fuji FinePix s3000 purchased almost three years ago. Its been a terrific camera and has worked perfectly until just last week when it came up with the "Zoom Error!" problem in the view finder. Since then we have not been able to take a single photo. We did not expose it to any extremes of heat or cold and we did not get it wet, so that would not explain the failure. I very carefully took the camera apart with a jewler's screwdriver and found that it is quite complex inside. To get to the zoom mechanism you have to remove 3 layers of circuit boards. Upon inspecting the zoom mechanism and the minature gear box I could find nothing obviously wrong or broken. Incidentally, don't try what some people suggest for other Fuji cameras about manually pulling the zoom out because you'll probably just strip the gear box. The mechanism is driven by a small motor about the size of a thumb-nail. I guess its possible that this had failed, but since I was not sure of the voltage and I didn't want to disconnect it, I didn't test it to see if it worked. I checked to see if there was any sand or grit in the mechanism but it all looked clean. When I put it back together the zoom mechanism extended and stayed there. The screen still showed "Zoom error". The only solution I can see is to buy a new camera of some sort. It seems that many of the Fuji cameras suffer from this zoom error problem so maybe a change of brand is in order. I think Fuji need to redesign their zoom mechanism.
