Question about Printers & Copiers

I have a pixma mp160, purchased about a year or so ago, has worked excellent, go to print today and I get a pop up box stating "USB device not recognized" and I am unable to print. I did try to reinstall the driver software that came with printer, I had to uninstall and then reinstall it, at the end it said it was not successfully installed and to contact canon.

    it is a fairly new cord, but i did think that might help...maybe i will purchase another one and see what happens, it's only a year old and this will be the 2nd cord i have gone through thoug...is that something that is common to malfunction???

I am using CANON MP160 Printer. It had been working properly for the last 4 months. But since last few 10 days, I am not able to print as always error 5100 pops up. Kindly suggest.


Issue: ERROR: Service error 5100 appears while printing from the computer

1. Allow print head to cool down
2. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to ensure a secure connection
3. Press ON/OFF switch to reset the multifunction device
4. Reseat ink cartridge (MP160 / MP180 / MP460)
5. The MP160 may require repair

Is a canon Pixma MP160 a wireless printer? I would like to make my printer which I now use a usb cord and make the printer a wireless connection instead, and I cannot find in the manual if it is wireless...


Per the information found here, it is not a wireless printer.
If you purchase a wireless print server (similar to a wireless router), you can connect just about any USB printer to it (which would be practically the same as having a wireless printer).
Some wireless print servers that support USB have a maximum of 2 USB ports and 4 or 5 network ports.
The only problem is the additional effort it takes to configure everything to work properly.

A few days ago, my computer started giving me the message "USB Device Not Recognized", and I soon realized it referred to my PIXMA MP160 printer/scanner. I've tried almost everything including reloading...


Try disconnecting unit from USB port, restart computer, and reinstall unit. Might try another USB port on computer. It also may be a bad printer/scanner! Try it on another computer.

Canon pixma mp160 printing problem


Here is the straight scoop for fixing your problem from the Canon website:
Issue: Unable to print from the computer when an error message is displayed

1. Configure printer driver to correct port 2. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to ensure a secure connection 3. Disconnect other device and reboot computer 4. Remove [Other device] from Device Manager

computer won't 'recognize device'. USB cable appears ok. USB ports work with other devices
