got the same issue, after a long period of the computer being off, it takes a few boots to get it starting. on top of this issue i can only get 1 of the long pci to work. none of the normal pci or integrated pci 3com 920 work. They come up in windows as if there wasnt enough free resources. i've tried with the motherboard, ram, and video and still cant find any free resources. I've even disable usb, serials, paralell, floppy disk drive and secondary ide just to try. any ideas?

another bit of info, after getting totally annoyed with the motherboard i've plugged a pci car in every slot, and now nothing gets recognized. it detects hardware been plugged, but when installing the software can never find the right "software" or drivers for it. Even tho i've downloaded the right drivers and everything. I've even reinstalled the OS and reflashed the bios. Any ideas?

Probably the board is bad or the board is grounded out on the chassis edge somewhere or possibly the mounting screws...

recommendation.. pull the system out of the chassis

test the power and board on a sheet of cardboard...

also try one stick of memory only and set the options for full ecc scrubbing on to test the memory correctly

I get one long beep followed by 2 short beeps.

Depending on what bios you have the problem is either your video card or the ram. On most bios's the is a video issue but on the odd one it is a dma access error ie memory.

You need to check your video card. If you have a spare one or can borrow one then swap it and see if it boots. It could be a few things but basically either a faulty video card or slot.

DMA access could mean the mother board has a problem or the video card or even ram.

This isn't a very common error but is usually the video card.

Nothing coming up on the monitor

This is very difficult to troubleshoot because there are too many unknowns.
Does the mobo have diagnostic LEDs? The changes in indicators would indicate the boot up activity is taking place. If you have no visual indicators, then
You might have to get a boot up code display. This is a device that connects to the bus (via pci / pcie slot in most cases) and has a digital readout. When the mobo stops on a certain code, you will have to lookup the code to determine where it's getting stuck.
If you have no access to a diagnostic card, then some of the other very "elementary" things you can do are:
Listen for the beep code. If the speaker doesn't beep at all, then your CPU is likely not running the POST test. Check your power on LED. Check your HDD LED to see if any disk activity (hdd detection) takes place.
Other than that, you're SOL without some equipment.
Good luck!

Can I upgrade my 1Ghz processor to a faster 2 or 3Ghz? I have an EliteGroup 741GX-M, socket 462 desktop with an AMD sempron

yes, it is possible, but the Front side bus will limit the functionality so much that it wouldn't be worth it.

I have a tiger mpx s2466n-4m. pc won't post.recognizes memory but wont go past bios and video shadowing? any help thanks! Just installed 2 AMD MP2600+ processors(wouldn't show any bios info)then went back...

Hello sir, hi, as I see it, your problem, can be anywhere in the PC, but I do suggest you test first these 5 parts on a separate PC, by swapping. Here are the possible 5 faults:
  1. Memory, even though is passes the counting on the bios, does the counting completes? i mean if your PC memory is 256 MB, it should count up to 256 MB.
  2. Processors, just make sure both are fine.
  3. VGA graphics card.
  4. Power supply box.
  5. Motherboard itself. To check this part, make sure all parts on the top 4 are good.
If all are considered tested and good. you may need to check other parts. So check for:
  • connections,
  • loose seating of video cards,
  • shorted or bad faulty DVD/hard disk drive,
  • plugged in USB devices, just remove them all.
  • reversed IDE cable, (the old one can be installed reversed)
The troubleshooting of your PC really takes time, But i do consider the motherboard to be the faulty one. Thats why we need to test everything before we consider the motherboard be the culprit.

Can't boot bios

This is common after doing a BIOS upgrade. It usually means that the bios was successful, but that the motherboard is just now recognizing that it has a new bios. In other words, it's seeing that the new bios is not the same as the old one you had before, and is giving you a warning that it's changed. You can usually go into the bios, and clear all messages. This should make it go away.
Post your specific motherboard, and i'll see if I can get you more info.
