Question about Olympus Camedia C-2000 Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Can't dowload Help! I purchased a C2000Z one week ago. I loaded the Camedia 4.1 and the Adobe CD's onto my Pentium II computer. An icon for My Digital Camera comes up in the My Computer Window, but there is no selection for an OLY 2000 - the only Olympi choices were the 200 and 300. The computer tells me I have no connection, on either of my two serial ports at any speed (changed in the Camedia software and in Device Manager. Is the port or the cable defective, or have I goofed up in the loading of the software?. P.S. The OLY 2000 I have was a store display, and I have a two-week period in which I could return it. I like the size, but I hate the lack of a lens cap attachment, and there appears to be some "play I can hear and see in the optics as it goes to the extreme telephoto. I don't mind more complex menu systems if it affords more control - would I be happier with a Nikon 950?

Re: Can't dowload

I would be concerned. First, the C2000Z is a very precision device. It came with a 41mm lens cap. If the extended lens bothers you, get the CLA-1 adapter, and cap it with a 43mm lens cap. I personally would not buy a demo digital camera. It goes thru too many funky and un-caring hands, if you catch my drift. Lastly, go to the Olympus web site and download the latest software. Hope you make the right choice; as most times you still "get what you pay for".

USB divice not recognized

I tried many ways to fix the problem. Someone suggesting unpluging it for 30 min. That didn't work. I downloaded the latest version of the camera driver. That didn't work. I downloaded the latest version of windows, and that didn't work.
I was running out of ideas. But I thought I might try restoring my computer to a prior date. This restore feature hasn't worked for me for 6 month. But, that day, luck was on my side.
Since I restored my computer to two weeks ago. My problem, is fixed!

You need to close the CD from your computer, or finalize it. When you do that, you write a "contents" table that allows the reader to know where the files are.

How does a telephote lens work on the C2000Z???

You must have the lens extended all the way or you get a halo effect as if your taking the picture through a tube. This might be interesting in some instances. I have the 1.4x for my 2000z and it works very well although it is a little cumbersome.

F505 USB driver problems

I don't know if I'll be much help, but I own a Dell also. I have an older Dell, it's a Pentium II 300 XPSD3000. When I first installed the driver, it recognized the camera and I was able to copy the images off of it. But when I unplugged the USB cable, or turn the camera off, my computer froze. After trying everything, I resorted to fromatting my drive and reinstalled Windows 98. Everything works great now! No more freezing after I remove the USB cable, or turn the camera off. I also use a Dell at work. It's a Pentium II 450 and it seems to work fine with the camera. I'm not suggesting you format your hard drive and start over, but if it's your last resort, you might want to try it. Get some help if you're uneasy about doing it. First you should try these steps though: 1. Remove the USB drivers you had previously installed. 2. Take at least one picture with your camera. 3. Connect the USB cable to the computer and your camera (with the camera turned off). 4. Put the driver cd in the cd-rom and turn the camera on. The computer should detect a new device and ask for drivers.
