OMG! I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS!
MY DAUGHTERS 21ST BIRTHDAY SNAPPING AWAY PICTURES AND BOOM BLACK SCREEN, DIDNT DROP THE CAMERA, JUST BLACK SCREEN, TRIED RESETTING ALL, TRIED TAKING OUT BATTERY, FOUND THIS WEBSITE, AND HIT THE CAMERA A FEW TIMES ON BOTTOM, AND BAM IT WORKED!!!!!

when i turn the camera on there a blavck screen and no picture

  • czyetz Mar 30, 2009

My screen went blank right after I took a normal indoor photo. I recharged the battery, checked and reset all of the settings and still nothing.

Did a Google search on the problem and found this website and everyone else that had the problem and fixed it with a good whack.

    And it worked. Thank you!!!

Same, problem and whacking it actually works! Dunno how long it will stay "fixed" though, but I guess I'll just give it a whack again when it goes black again. Saves 100+ dollars! You have to hit it quite hard (with your hand). If you are looking at the LCD hit the bottom left on the side. Seems to do the trick!

I had the same thing happen and by searching around for a solution today I came across is easy fix - give the camera a little "whack". It worked like a charm for me and several other people with the same issue. The issue was on this site but I can't find the exact one to link it. I hope it works for the rest of you - other people have paid the $100 to get it fixed, try this first!
If that doesn't work contact canon and see if they will honor your problem according to this advisory :http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=10468&keycode=2112&id=48264

As an engineer...I'm appalled that that just fixed my camera that has been black for about 2 months now. Thanks for the fix!

I just searched the web for a solution to fix the same problem with my SD1000. I had already tried softly tapping the camera but nothing happened. After reading your solution I gave it a harder bump to the bottom and side with the battery out and it fixed the problem. Thank you for providing this unusual solution. 10/9/2008

Asking for a friend why does the screen go black all the time when She is using it and the voice goes in and out

During a phone call, on many models the screen will turn off as nothing needs to be seen, and it saves power. The problem with the voice could be either your friend, or the person they are calling, moving away from the microphone whilst they are talking.

My easyshare m1063 will take pictures, but the pictures dont show

I have an easyshare and there's a 2 part lens cover that closes when you turn it off and opens when you turn it on - normally. Mine only closes one part of the cover when I turn it off and opens when I turn it on. Kodak said I could send it in but I may have sat on it and caused it to malfunction. In which case they wouldn't cover it. Yours sounds like it's not opening at all. Look at the lens, and if you see a flat black cover with a wavy line instead of glass when you turn it on, yours is stuck shut. If it's still under warranty they should fix it unless you sat on yours too. Consumer Reports rated these a best buy but somehow this problem fell through the cracks of their testing.

LCD screen black with white specs in picture and movie mode

With the power off, hold the camera in your palm and smack the front of the camera on your leg or arm. You might have to smack it a few time to get it to work. It has to do with the camera CDD lense (shuttle) being stuck. By smacking it around, it will free up the lense. Being extra gentle with it though. It worked for me. Hope this help.

Pentax Optio 330GS its gone blind!

You've probably got something as simple as a ribbon cable loose in the camera. Beware though, dismantling is a serious task unless you have experience. Amazingly the CCD is often connected in such a simple, analog-esqe, way that disconnecting it doesn't cause an error, just a black screen.
