Smart Media obsolete?

I have a Olympus D-510 digital camera which I love and it uses Smart Media disks. I heard that they are going to be obsolete. Has anyone heard that? And what do do if they are? What media is the new and upcoming thing to buy?

Re: Smart Media obsolete?

There are an awful lot of devices in circulation that use that media. I think you can count on being able to find it *somewhere* for the next few years, at least. And you'll probably be able to find some on eBay for more than a decade. Besides, how many do you need for a camera? I have an Olympus 2020 and each 64 meg card gives me over 128 high-res shots. One card will be enough for most users. Few people will wear them out (they do have a limited number of writes they can do.) Buy a couple of extras as replacements for lost cards and that should last most people forever. Really heavy users might splurge for six or eight of them if they see the prices start to rise as they become more scarce a few years from now. But that should be a very rare person that needs to be concerned about that.

Re: Smart Media obsolete?

I have a fuji finepix 601 working with smartmedia cards, however the newer version of it, the 610 now has XD-cards which are even smaller. Olympus also is using XD cards for their new cameras. It looks like smartmedia is becoming obsolete indeed, as the maximum card size is 128 mb and other card form go much further. I don t see new cameras being sold with smartmedia cards, but the smartmedia cards are still sold in most shops, so it may be wise to buy an extra one if you want to use your olympus camera on the long term.

What kind of memory card does a Cannon Olympus SP-55OUZ camera use?

ummm.. just insert the darn thing and see if the camera will use it. It is smart enough to know what cards it can recognize. Also I've heard of Canon cameras and Olympus cameras but did not know they made one together.

LCD DISPLAY IS BROKEN HOW TO BAY A NEW

I almost always use ebay to purchase replacement parts like LCDs or other things. Just be smart when searching. Below is a link to the ebay listings for the part you require. Replacing the Screen is usually a little tricky, so take your time when taking the camera apart and make sure you keep all screws and have clean hands, and a clean workspace.

Camera set to RAW, but pics showing up as JPEG when viewed, stored

Some cameras will shoot RAW + JPEG, and save a copy of each in a different directory on the card.

Re-check your owners manual, and also check the manufacturer's website for a firmware update...

Clearing pictures from olympus D-510 zoom media card

The manual for your camera is here

On page 55 of the PDF file it is explained how to delete images selectively.

On page 125 it is shown how to erase all the images at once.

Attention, the page numbering of the PDF file and the manual itself are not the same. PDF-file page 55 is manual page 45.

Hope that helps

Olympus Evolt 510 LCD Issue.

I purchased a olympus evolt 510 - having problems taking picture in the dark. The camera will take 30 second to focus and sometimes will not take a picture at all. Also I find when I am in doors the camera will take a substantial amount of time to focus on an object this is specifically when the flash is in use. The flash seems to be adjusting flickering constantly. Seriously Annoying.

If you can be some assistance I would deeply appreciate it.

Best,

JP

Smartmedia Panorama mode

I don't know what you are doing, but my Nikon 4500 has a panoramic feature. It has nothing to do with the memory card. When you put it in panorama mode, on the second and subsequent shots, it shows about 1/3 of the previous shot in the viewfinder. You line that up with your present shot, and take the picture. The Nikon software, on a computer, can probably stitch the photos back together. You can do the same thing in an image editing program.
