Question about Fine Digital FineDrive 400 GPS Receiver

Trick I was so excited to see your answer about the sd data card files - got one file, second ... Then WHAM - the last file is not available! 'missing'. I am freaking out trying to get my finedrive 400 to work. I'm retired, disabled - small income- bought nice new gps - and in 3 weeks it was stolen from my van. couldn't afford another so went to ebay and got this 'working' finedrive. No sd datacard and it boots to win ce. I think all I need is the card but have been trying for days ... so many rip off offers... then I found you. Can you help with the files? the ones on fly upload were a wash.... #3 doesn't exist after clicking ten, ten times! I'd be very grateful for your help. jerry@yeswedeliver.org

I tried hosting these files and you can see that this does not work due to their size. I then created a DVD and have been selling them on ebay to cover my costs. finedrive got $150 for this dvd and I am selling them for $16 plus shipping... if you search ebay for finedrive dvd you should find one there. I am travelling now so I dont have one listed till late this week...

I would like to get the latest australian map updates for a Trax 353 if thats possible. Can I download the latest maps off the internet onto an SD card and install it into my trax 353.

hi Joe Peckham you need to download the latest from uniden on to you computer. You can copy the download on to the SD card as a file. in order to do the download on the SD card back on to the Trax 353 see if you can upload files from the SD card. Because it has been my experience that you may need to transfer the file download and copy it into a different file type on the SD card. If you still have the getting started tips and tricks man. See what it says about reading files from SD card. My suggestion use a a 4GB SD card. with nothing on it this way you can erase the SD card and Start fresh. Hope this helps. Also btw read the SD card on your computer first to see if the file downloaded.

I delete a software in a SD card that comes with GPS accidently. I would like to know where I can download this software.

You haven't stated the exact make and model so it's impossible to provide a specific answer.

However, if all you've done is to accidentally delete your SD card data and you have not written any new data, it should be entirely possible to recover the original data by using SD card recovery software. When you deleted your data it was not removed: all that happened was that the information which tells your computer where the data is was deleted and the file names were all slightly changed. Data recovery software can find and copy these files to your hard drive and you can then replace the deleted information so that the files are fully readable again. When you're happy that the job is complete, send the data to an SD card and you should be up and running again.

I cannot recommend any specific free software as the program I use is an expensive paid for option, but since buying it a few years ago I have heard that there are now many free programs which do many of the basic recovery functions every bit as well.

Just enter "sd recovery free" into your search engine and you should find a solution to suit you.

Why cant I download my waypoint data to a 2 GB SD card. My Global map 5000c does not recognise the 2GB SD card. Do I need MMC/SD. Can I place the sd card in the slot beside the chart card ?. Thanks

You can place the SD card into the slot beside the chart card.

With the SD card in the GlobalMap unit by itself (take the chart card out), press MENU twice and choose BROWSE FILES. Does the unit indicate that an SD card is present? If yes, the card is working fine in that slot. Try the same thing in the other slot. If it only recognizes the SD card in one of the slots, the other slot is bad and probably won't work with any card. If the card is recognized in the BROWSE FILES menu, but the data that is on the card is not working, there could be compatibility issues with the data and the GlobalMap 5000.

Make sure the GlobalMap 5000 has the latest software update from http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Legacy-Products/GlobalMap-5000C/Downloads/GlobalMap-5000C-Software-Update-180/. You might need to get a different, smaller capacity card since your 2GB is not working.

If the 2GB SD card still isn't recognized in the BROWSE FILES menu after the update, the GlobalMap 5000 is not going to work with that 2GB card. You will want to get a different card. I suggest 1GB and smaller.

If this doesn't help, please let me know some more details. Is the 2GB SD card recognized in the BROWSE FILES menu. What are you seeing that makes you determine it does not recognize this card? What files are currently on this card? What kind of card is it (brand, model).

GPS CAN NOT FIND MAP DATA FILES

I had a similar problem with a nextar X4-T, which has it's maps on an SD card. If your GPS uses an SD card for it's maps, you can try this:

You will need a computer with an SD slot, and running Windows Xp. I tried the following method on a computer running Windows Vista, and it did not work. I tried again on an older Xp machine, and it worked first time.

  1. Put the SD (Map) card in the computer's SD slot.
  2. Open Windows "explore". (RIGHT click on "Start", then select "explore"
  3. Locate your disk on the file menu.
  4. RIGHT click on the map disk
  5. A menu pops up.
  6. At the bottom of the menu, select "properties"
  7. Another menu pops up, with several tabs along the top.
  8. Select the tab that says "tools".
  9. In the "error-checking" section, select "Check Now"
  10. Another menu pops up.
  11. Select the box that says 'Automatically fix file system errors".
  12. Click "Start"
The program will only take a few seconds to run. If it works, you will see the file directories of the SD card display on the "Explore' screen. You can then put the SD card back in the GPS, and see if it works.

Good luck.

Frozen map screen

Try purchasing a new SD memory card (brand name) and installing the files there. Sometimes the manufacture sends cheap SD cards and the data is easily lost in damaged or poorly made SD cards. I have a EVESHAM 2007 and installed the files from the original CDto a new SD card and solved freezing and other problems resulting from poor data transmission from the cheap SD.

Also, try going online to the manufactureer's web site to see if they have downloads/ updates available there to replace the origianl install files that came with the unit. Always put on new brand new SD card.

Hope this helps

Fine drive 400 map data files

you can buy a 1gb sd card but then you have to get matching map data files, if you know someone with the same unit you could try copiying their data but it has to be the same date or you will get an error. the files themselves are too big to email or post online in most sites.

I created a repair DVD with both the firmware update and last map update issued by fine digital before closing in the US and leaving us all high and dry. there is a company called C&C wireless that sells a similar dvd for $109. I sell mine on ebay for $18 plus shipping. will be posting one there this week.

Can not download map data for fatal application error

One solution is to visit C&C wireless and pay over $100 for a map update or even send them your unit for even more $. see http://www.finedrive-acc.com/shop.cart?action=ITEM&prod_id=F400-08CP

The other solution was to send it to Fine Digital but they closed their doors in the US so they no longer support us customers. Because of this I made a DVD with map data I purchased from them before they closed and I added much better instructions; this DVD updates the firmware in the unit and loads the last map data issued to the SD card. you would need a PC with a DVD drive and SD card reader to use it. you can find these DVDs on ebay for $18 which basically covers my costs only.

Do you have an sd card installed with mapping data on it ( a folder named garmin)? Or a defective sd card?
I had this error with a copied map, seems to be an issue with a wrong or missing *.unl file, which is an unlock file for unlocking map data

IQue 3600 sim card problem

from Garmin:
Question: Why wont the PC recognise my the SD card in my iQue 3600?
--> Answer: Go to My computer and look for the following directory:

  • C: > Program Files > Palm > (user name) > file called 'sync'

  • Double click on this file and delete the four bottom rows that will look something like this:

"SlotId=0
MediaType=1935960423
DisplayName=SecureDigital (SD) Card
InstallDirName=Slot-SD"

  • Then try a HotSync as normal, it should then 'see' your SD card.

  • If all fails delete a second user name as sometimes this interferes.
