You're going to need to go to the link bellow and download the latest power management driver. If it's just an incompatibility issue, the download will fix it. However, many time it's actually a failed component in the power management system, so, if the download doesn't fix it, then you can assume it's a failed component and you might want to have it professionally traced down to the exact component for repair.

Charging in plug but not charging

Here are some of the possible sources of the problem and suggested troubleshooting methods. AC Adapter Problems
If the AC adapter is not working properly, then the charging won't occur at all. An AC adapter, with lower than required voltage settings, will not be able to charge the battery. See to it that the AC adapter matches the laptop battery's requisite settings. A loose wire or internal breakdown, may render an AC adapter useless. Changing the adapter all together might solve your problem.
Power Management Software Problem
Sometimes, the problem is merely with the power management software. This is the classic case, when the laptop charges when switched off, but doesn't when the computer has booted. The software may have gotten corrupted which must be causing the problem. In such a case, go to the device manager section and uninstall the power management software. In case of Windows XP, uninstall 'Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing' from the device manger section. Take care that you do not install any other AC adapter driver software. Then go for a 'hardware scan', which will automatically identify the battery and reinstall the latest version of the drivers again. That will restore the charging facility of your laptop.
Internal Charging Circuitry Problem
If neither the AC adapter, nor the power management software has a problem, then problem can be with the internal charging circuitry of the laptop. In this case, there is little you can do, other than send the laptop to the manufacturer's service center.
Bad Battery
If you have checked for all of the above, one of the main reasons, which could lead to the problem of laptop plugged in but laptop battery not charging is a bad or dead battery. Run a laptop battery test. If your laptop is quite old, this could be one of the most likely reasons. Get the battery checked from the manufacturer and check if it has exceeded its predicted recharge cycle limit. It is important that you get the dead battery replaced immediately with a new one. Laptop battery troubleshooting will solve the problem.
Hope this article solves your problem of laptop plugged in but not charging. If you are unable to figure out the problem and none of the above troubleshooting methods work, it is best to send your laptop over for servicing with manufacturing company's service center. If you open up the laptop on your own, the warranty stands void, which means you have to spend out of your own pocket. So, unless, it is a software level problem, it is best that you let professionals solve the problem for you.

Advent N270 netbook will not charge. Orange light comes on initially then goes off. Also when I wiggle the plug into the laptop the light flashes on and intermittently.

It sounds like either a bad connection on the motherboard or a broken wire in the adapter making intermittent connection.

1. With the power adapter disconnected, do you have a power light? This would indicate the adapter is good and the plug is questionable.

2. Check your power adapter output with a multi-meter.(be sure to wiggle the wires around) If the power fluctuates, replace the plug.

3. If the power is solid, replace the motherboard connector.

My battery dies very quickly

If your notebook unexpectedly goes into Sleep mode while you are using it but the battery charge is not low, you may need to recalibrate your battery. You should also recalibrate the battery periodically to maintain the accuracy of the battery gauge. Follow these steps to recalibrate the battery.

  1. Connect your notebook to AC power and let the battery charge completely.
  2. Disconnect the AC power and restart your notebook.
  3. Completely discharge the battery.
  4. After the battery is completely drained, reconnect your notebook to AC power.
  5. Charge the battery completely until the battery status indicator turns blue.

Plugged in not charging on Dell Inspiron 1525

If you have the battery at a low level and it's not charging then i think i might have worked out what might be the problem:

First flash the BIOS to Revision A17 (or later if available)
Then power off and turn on the laptop with AC adaptor plugged in, hit F2 to go into BIOS and go to Battery Info.

If you can see 'AC Adapter 65w' at the bottom then there shouldn't be anything wrong with your power supply or the laptop. If it says 'Unknown' then there's a problem with your motherboard or the AC adapter.

New aftermarket Inspiron 6000 battery will not power the Laptop

I would say that the power management portion of the system board is probably faulty if it behaves the same with both the factory battery and the aftermarket.

Many systems have the charge controller and battery interface on a separate board but unfortunately on the Inspiron 6000 it's integrated.

FYI, Here's a copy of the service manual for that system: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/sm/index.htm

Battery won't hold charge. netbook only a few months old.

f the notebook battery is not charging or the notebook does not indicate that the battery is charging, the most likely scenario is that the battery itself is operating correctly, but its power management software may have become corrupt. In order to correct the problem, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the power management software by using the Device Manager. This document will explain how to uninstall and reinstall the ACPI Battery listings in Windows Vista, as well as how to obtain and install updated BIOS files, if needed to correct other battery issues. Uninstalling and reinstalling power management software in Windows Vista In order to correct problems with the battery's power management software, follow the steps below.
  1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
  2. Expand the Batteries category.
  3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall . WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
  4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes c01176420.gif . Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.

you have gotten stuck at other power levels, so trying powering it down with AC adapater and battery in, remove battery and then put in back in, see if charge light will come on steady.

Battery not charging

Hi,
With notebooks, the manufacturer will typically install a utility to manage the power settings.

However, the problem is that Windows can only use one power configuration utility at a time.

For example, if you were to use the manufacturers utility by setting the notebook to "Max performance" And then you went to your screen saver settings and clicked :power settings" and chose a different power scheme, It would confuse the system

Just choose which one you like the most, and use only that one only.
