Ge washer wjrr4170g agitating very hard and rough and out of balance but is level on the floor. What is possibly wrong?

Hello Trina;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

Go into Searspartsdirect.com. In put your model number. Ther will be a diagram showing your rod springs. I suspect you have a bad rod spring or it has come loose. The rod spring stabilizes the washer drum during agitation and spin cycle. These are relatively inexpensive parts approximately $16.00 each.

Lets repair this together. I have faith in you Trina. No man required.
Unplug or turn the circuit breaker off.
To replace this part you need to open the top cover. There are two retaining clips, one on the right and one on the left. If you look into where the top cover meets the front plate you will see these clips. With a putty knife or a spatula push on these clips to release the top cover. Raise the cover up.
Now, you need to remove the front cover. First disconnect the electrical connector to the door latch. Using a small screw driver wedge between the connector for release.
You will see screw on the inside at the top of the front cover. One on each side. They are either Phillips head screws of hex head screws. Remove these fasteners. Lift up on the front cover. There are tabs that go into slots. You may have to play with the position of tabs and slot to remove. You will now have access to the rod springs.
If the rod springs are loose tighten the threaded fasteners. If they are broken replace. You probably have only one broken. Keep running the dishwasher then you will have both broken.

Anytime this machine goes into a spin cycle it is grossly out of balance. we have tried adjusting the load; reducing the size of the load; we have gone to just one towel in the washer and still out of...

Are the locking nuts tight on all 4 legs? If not, tighten all locking nuts after leveling machine. Also, place a glass of water about 18" in front of machine while spinning and see if water moves. If it does, you may have flooring issues.

This model of washer does not have an out of balance cut off switch. If the load is not balanced properly the tub could hit the cabinet sides. If the unit spins evenly while empty & out of balance while loaded, I recommend checking & balancing the load. If the basket spins out of balance while empty, I recommend having the suspension springs & balance ring checked. Be sure not to wash light fabric with heavy fabric clothes. Also ensure that the adjustable feet are level, that's most important.

GE Front Load washer shakes whenever any type of load is put in. GE service has been out at least 4 times and say that its fine..perfectly level, etc

All front loaders shake to some extent. It depends on the balance of the load. It is especially evident in the spin cycle due to the high speeds. Also these machines are best placed on a solid cement floor. They can shake an entire house if on the first or second floor and the floors are not well reinforced.

I have a front loading GE washer that is extremely loud on spin cycle. How can i remedy this?

A washing machine may wiggle, rattle or move across the floor. It is often accompanied by excessive, or loud noise. There can be several causes and the problem is worse with some units more than others. The most common cause is an unbalanced wash load. Open the lid/door, and attempt to redistribute the clothing to balance the weight. Heavy loads, especially things like comforters, are more likely to become unbalanced than small loads. If you do a lot of heavy loads, you should consider a heavy duty/large capacity washer when it comes time to replace your current unit. A washer must be level both from side to side as well as from front to back. Washing machines have adjustable feet to enable you to level them. See your manual on how to level your washing machine. The outer tub/basket, is supported by springs, shocks, pistons or counterweights to keep it balanced. The weight of all that water in a wash load requires a powerful balancing mechanism. If the balancing system becomes detached from one or more points, it will not be able to balance the load properly. Furthermore, even if everything appears to be in place, as the appliance ages, the springs or pistons/shock absorbers, may begin to wear out and not support as much weigh as needed.

Unplug the washer and open the cabinet. Because of the variety of balancing mechanisms, you will have to inspect your machine to determine how it is balanced. Once you discover the mechanism, then inspect it for integrity. In the case of old parts that appear to be in working order, you may not be able to tell if they need to be replaced. They may be weak but appear to be in good condition. If no other solution resolves the problem, then replacing the balancing springs or other moving support parts may be the best action.Another common cause for excessive movement, or clunking, is the floor on which the washer rests. The washer is heavy and even more so when filled with water. Any floor, other than a concrete slab, will tend to pick up and amplify the vibrations from the machine. There are a couple things you can try. If you have access to the joists under the floor, you may be able to beef up the support. Another thing to try is placing a large sheet of plywood under the washer. It should be 3/4" or even 1" thick and as large as possible to distribute the weight. Use a sheet big enough for both the washer and dryer to sit on. If possible fasten the plywood to the existing floor.

NOTE_ Verify That the shipping system including shipping bolts, spacers and cables are removed. This is a common issue when a new washer is installed.

Wm 2487H. My machine is off balance and shake the house terribly bad. It also has a metalic scraping sound sometimes when the drum spins. I just purchased my LG washer and dryer a couple of months ago. I...

Starting in November 2008--LG introduced "square door" model washers.
These washers will (unlike round door models) perform very well on wood floors.
If the WM2487 washer is on a wood floor--even a tiled wood floor--it will be near impossible to get smooth spin performance.
Some homeowners have had success by adding two layers of 3/4 inch wood under the washer AND dryer.
The following steps were taken:
1) Remove washer & dryer
2) Cut & remove any floor covering (bare wood)
3) Locate floor joists with a stud-finder & mark locations at the edge of the flooring--allows finding the joist locations after 3/4 sheet is laid to floor.
4) Add wood glue to floor
5) Place 3/4 inch wood sheet to floor & drive screws thru wood into joists (as many scews as deemed necessary to fully & completely compress wood sheet to existing floor
6) Add wood glue to 1st wood sheet
7) Place 2nd 3/4 inch wood sheet on top of 1st wood layer and drive screws into floor joists.
8) Add molding if desired
9) Re-install washer & dryer and level.
10) Add one heavy towel into washer tub & close door ( this will mimick an off-center load)
11) Press power "on" button
12) Press "Spin Speed" button & select high speed spin option
13) Press "Start" button
14) When * 9 minutes remaining * is displayed--use the flat wrenchette that comes with every LG washer to "tweak" the adjustment of the front leveling legs. This will allow for "fine tuning" adjustment of the front leveling leg(s) to eliminate vibration / noise during the spin cycle. The rear leveling legs DO NOT need further adjustment.
NOTE: Those with pedestals--check the front leveling legs on the washer and on the pedestals (front only) during spin.

My ge front loader is making a banging noise while in spin cycle

When I was researching which washer to buy I read that this one is not the best choice to have on a second floor. Ours is on the main floor and can still be a little loud in the spin cycle. Have you balanced the machine properly? Otherwise, I think I read that people have had success putting a thick, dense rubber mat (like a stall mat for horses) under the washer to minimize the sound/wobbling. Good luck!

Walking during the spin cycle

Is your floor level, first thing. Okay, the rear 2 legs are not adjustable so leave it. The front 2 legs should be screwed up (ie the machine should be at the lowest level in front) and there are check nuts to tighten inside the body of the machine. Check the machine it it rocks by using your hand against it. Adjust accordingly, this is if your floor is not too good. You shd not hv any problem. If the rocking persists check inside machine, behind after getting he plug off wall, maybe shockabsorbers hv come off, springs?.....

and rate me please if helped.............

Walking during the spin cycle

Try placing it on a rubber mat or carpet that has a rubber backing. The floor may be too smooth and allows it to walk.
