Turn the machine off. Open the access door and remove the cyan photoconductor unit. Check the contact pins are straight and undamaged. Gently reinsert the unit. Turn the power back on. If the machine still does not recognise the pcu is inserted it is probably damaged and needs replacing. How many copies/prints has your machine done?
Hi, the "Replace Photoconductor" message does come up after a preset number of copies, typically about 60,000. The photoconductor will still continue to work fine, and even with the message displayed the copier should run like normal. The message will keep flashing until you replace the photoconductor, and then it will automatically detect the new unit and the message will disappear.
photoconductor unit is a drun unit which does the actual copying of image on the paper. its life is 60,000 copies. its will need a replacement because after a while you will notice there are black marks appearing on your copies or your copies are not good or black shades. photoconductour unit is just beside toner supply unit. you can pull out the whole unit.
The Photoconductor Unit or PCU is easy to replace. The box will come with instructions but it is basically a slide in unit. They will vary in price depending on where you go. You might find one on Ebay cheaper but they generally run around $225. Keep in mind this is a drum/developer unit combination so you are replacing pretty much everything that controls copy quality.
Ricoh part number is 411018 or a type 1027 photoconductor if that helps your search.
