17" Sony monitor black, on/off switch yellow

My husband is not tech savvy, neither am I. Would it be more economical to have it fixed or buy a new one? It was just working this morning. Bot it in May 06.

It may not be a inverter problem if your light is orange, if when you turn it on it says "no signal going to power save" then it is not the inverter because you can see the message. i am having the same problem with my sony sdm-hs73, and through my research the problem seems to be coming from the video/controller board. i dont know where to find one of these to replace my bad one though. any help would be apreciated.

It's seems your backlight inverter finally burnt out on ya... Need to replaced a new inverter or you can repaired yourself and show your hubby who the boss in the house...hehehe... Only need to replaced a couple of capacitors...that cost about $10 bucks! Well...good lucks!

I m having samsung SyncMaster 753s 17" black it

It sounds like your monitor has bad capacitors in the power supply that are slow to charge up. Repeatedly turning the power on as you do eventually charges them to the point where the monitor comes on. It isn't clear from your description if the monitor works properly when it finally comes on, so I don't know if it has other problems as well.

The shop you took it to probably didn't want to be bothered trying to diagnose the bad parts, because it's not economical to repair. They would need to charge you more for the repair parts and labor than the monitor is worth, and it's impossible to tell what other parts are ready to fail because of their age. I don't blame them. New LCD monitors are inexpensive, and it would probably cost less to buy a new one than to fix your CRT monitor.

My suggestion is to replace the monitor.

Viewsonic vp171s lcd flickers on start up then goes black.

This is typical of a back-light problem, especially when you view the LCD screen at a sharp angle and you see a dim Windows image. This fault is caused by either a faulty inverter board or a faulty CCFL lamp.
The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp. the CCFL lamp is a mini fluro lamp which fails with age and use.
This LCD screen can be repaired, the cost of an inverter board and CCFL lamp is a lot cheaper than a new LCD screen, but this is an opportunity/excuse to buy a larger size LCD screen as these monitors have dropped in price.

Acer LCD AL1916W

This usually means the Power Inverter board is going bad. If you're a bit savvy with tech repair, you can look up and order a replacement board - LCD inverters for MANY LCD models are available on ebay and amazon - they're relatively easy to replace. Just make sure the power is UNPLUGGED before to start taking apart the display!

Monitor is blank/black

It is probably the inverter board inside the monitor.
(if the screen does properly display ever then it is not the screen)
It CAN be fixed but I do not suggest anyone open up a monitor (LCD or CRT)
who is not "technically inclined." If you really want to fix this
particular one then take it to a local tech and get an estimate first. If it's almost as much as a new monitor then buy a new one.

Laptop Display goes black:

Motherboard, (mainboard) problem. I can only recommend replacing it to fix the problem.
So you can look on ebay to get another motherboard, and take it to a local tech to install it.

I warn that this will probably be almost as expensive as buying a new Laptop. So unless you are sentimental to this one, buy a new one.
