If your bottom freezer has ice build up, (you will see it frosted up), you do not have proper air flow. Check to see if your defrost elements are working. They are in the freezer compartment. in the evaporator. There is a defrost timer on the bottom of your fridge. You can turn the knob until the refergerator turns off, then listen in the frezzer compartment to se if the elements are working. (You will hear them sizzle)

Runs but doesn't cool

An Amana SxS has 3 motors. The evaporator fan motor in the freezer (common failure in Amana's), condenser fan motor behind the cover on the bottom back of the machine, and lastly, the compressor itself.
If just one of these works, it could be claimed the machine is running.
If there is no frost built up on the rear panel of the freezer compartment (defrost system failure), and if both fans are running, and no frost exists on the back panel of the freezer compartment, then it would a problem with the compresser, and would need either a new start kit, or possibly a new compressor. This last part should be handled by a pro.

Freezer frosty and fridge warm.

Hi, With the information you supplied i'm going to assume there is an ice build up at the rear of the freezer. Your problem is going to be with your defrost system. I will also assume you have the ability to repair this yourself. This is going to be one of three problems with your refridgerator, 1st thing to do is remove shelfs and panel in the back of the freezer...you should see ice build up on the evaporator...don't worry get a hair dryer and melt the ice. Next locate the wires for the heater...using a multi meter test the heater for condinuity...if the heater is bad replace it, If the heater is good replace the defrost thermostat..the stat normally is a barrel looking part clipped onto the evaporator pipe. The last possible problem could be the evaporator fan, have you heard the fan running in the past few hours?..if you are not sure pull the panel out to where you can see fan and watch it over an hour to see if it turns. I have included links with pictures of what the parts you need to check are: http://romulusappliance.com/manufacturers/maytag/refrigerators/575432.JPG defrost stat http://www.hotekalliance.com/UploadFiles/2008627111553382.jpg heaters http://www.applianceblog.com/archives/EvapMotor1018185.jpg evap fan. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. If you decide to get a repair guy in should not cost you any more then $120 - $200 depending on make/model/problem Good luck & thanks for using fixya! Mike

Refrigerator warm freezer cold frost on freezer coils

replace the evaporator fan, this fan problem is hard to diagnose because the fan will spin but not fast enough to circulate the chilled air thru the freezer and the refrigerator. The minimum cost to repair/replace is around $300.00

Amana refrigerator warm

Chances are if they are getting cool but not cold-

1) the evaporator fan in the freezer is not running
2) Defrost heater has failed
3) Defrost sensor has failed
4) Defrost timer/refrigerator control has failed.

Check for ice build-up on the back wall of the freezer. If there is ice, unplug or turn the unit off for 6-8 hours with the doors open (put any food in a cooler with ice to maintain). Note water may come out of the refrigerator.
Plug the unit back in or turn it back on, close the doors, and check temperature after a couple of hours of operation. If all OK, you will need to have the above tested, or, if you know how to use a multimeter and can read a schematic/wiring diagram, I can instruct you on how to check the above.

Fridge problem

Hi. The most common failure for this make refrigerator is a bad evaporator fan motor. You should feel air coming out of the diffuser in your freezer. If not, either the fan motor is bad or you have alot of frost build up on the evaporator. You would see alot of frost on the back wall of the freezer where the evaporator coil is located. If this is the case, most likely the defrost bimetal thermostat. But if no frost, the evaporator fan motor is most common and likely to be your problem. Visit me on Ebay username: themackshack. Amana French Door Refrigerator "on" but no cooling; freezer still works

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.
