How do you stop the door leaving a foot open at the bottom?

To stop the door in a partially open position, the button on the wall switch or remote should be pulsed when the door is opening from the fully closed position.

Garage door only opens little bit

there is a weight sensor and a how far lift sensor adjustment on the control box. If the springs are broken the weight sensor will stop the door from opening. There is another adj as to how far to raise the door this could also be bad. (each is a screw in the box unit its marked)

Garage door

There should be two screw slots on the side/end of the lifter motor unit.
One is for how much force to close, the other how far down it comes.
Adjust the one for how far down it goes.

Have to hold the button down for it to close and open and its opening to far hitting the motor and light guard

To correct the opening too far, locate the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover.

If you have to hold the wall control button to get the door to close it is your door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and that the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit if necessary.

Every once in awhile we open the garage with the remote and it opens too far back hitting the bolt right before the light/motor. Should it go that far back when it opens all the way? Also, why does the...

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'up limit' control. Turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover.

Your chain coming off is caused by a worn out bearing on the Gear & Sprocket assembly. This is generally caused by a door that needs springs and is much heavier than it should be. The part number is 41C4220A and is available at any good door service company. It should come with instructions.

Garage door doesn't open and close properly

Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit. With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain. Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.

Are you turning travel screw, or force screw? If travel, One is for how far up and other is for how far down. Insert screwdriver into UP adjustement and turn it opposite direction of arrow. Try 2-3 turns to start. Yu may have to turn back CW. If while adjusting door just stops, go have a cup of coffee. You overheated motor. Give it 15 minutes to cool down.
