The radiator and cap just replaced, tune up and oil change current. 1999 jeep cherokee 2.5L 4 cyc engine losses power after this last servicing. i use o'reilly octane booster and so far this seems to help more than anything. the stop engine light will come on for a sec when i'm lossing power. i pull over to side of hwy and it cranks right up. my mechanic doesn't know what it could be if the check engine light is not staying on. any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thank you in advance for your help.

YOU NEED TAKE VECHICLE TO AUTO ZONE OR ANY AUTO PARTS STORE THEY WILL CODE SCAN VECHICLE FREE TO SEE WHAT CAUSING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO TURN ON.LOSING POWER COULD BE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL OR YOU COULD HAVE PLUGGED EXHAUST SYSTEM.HAVE CAR SCAN FIRST TO KEEP SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY TOO MANY NEW PARTS.

You don't really have a mechanic that has much knowledge

Without the vehicle to test drive & do some testing on it,
there is no way to just guess & I suspect you wouldn't
understand any of our suggestion anyway.

Find the best established shop, one that has been in the same
family for 20 or 30 years

You have to go on a road test with these people before you
leave a vehicle. Be part of the solution,go to the shop on a
supprise visit & as a lot of questions, walk into the service bay

If that isn't some they want you doing take your vehicle &
go elsewhere.
So what test tools they have, study obd2 on internet & have some
trick questions ready to fire off.

Changed a frost plug on a 99 jeep cherokee and used new antifreeze and now gettin lil warm instead off hot heat inside ...why?

You have an air bubble in the coolant system. When the engine is cold, loosen the radiator cap to the first notch. Start the engine and warm to operating temperature. Turn the engine off and top off the radiator and overflow tank. Tighten the radiator cap and allow to completely cool down. After the engine is cold again, top off the overflow tank. The heater should work properly.
Good luck.

My '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd 6 cylinder is giving me fits right now. It stalls backfires losing speed while driving down road then if I pull over and turn off and on sometimes it will be okay. What could...

When was the last time you tuned up your Jeep? Spark plugs, cap and rotor can certainly attribute to if not cause the problem you are describing. Definitely sounds like a fuel problem (too much fuel being dumped in the cylinders.)

Jeep Grand Cherokee running hot. I've changed the

Check your radiator for external and internal obstructions (leaves, bugs etc on the a/c condenser or leaves between the condenser and radiator, rust or calcium deposits inside the radiator core all cause loss of heat transfer)
Also make sure that the system is full and that the electric fan and the clutch fan are operating properly. (electric fan should come on just above normal operating temp and clutch fan should not be "freewheeling" above temp either)
Note: If you need to have the radiator flushed, do it separately from the engine. especially the inline 6 and 4 engines rust up inside and if the system is flushed with the radiator connected, the debris will pack up inside it and actually can worsen the condition.

1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L engine. Oil

I'm assuming the engine is still running and no engine noise has occured due to loss of oil pressure, and it is just the gauge that is not reading? If so, the oil pressure switch that is located on the camshaft sensor, could have a bad connection or the oil sensor will need to be replaced. The oil sensor is located on the left side of the engine and is mounting horizontally on the camshaft sensor housing.

Jeep turns over but will not start

I am going to assume that you didn't accidentally put DIESEL in?? If you did, siphon all you can out and add fresh GAS(!) and 3-4 bottles Octane booster.

Squirt a bit of Starting Ether in the Air CLeaner inlet
Start Jeep
Squirt Ether
Start Jeep
Start Jeep
Squirt Ether
Start Jeep
Repeat until it runs. Do not use alot of Ether - will blow engine!!!
Fixed!

If you didn't put Diesel in, and KNOWING that the problems are usually FIRE-related, replace all FIRE-related parts ($40.00)

Get new ROTOR (Thingy that spins inside CAP, distributes HVolts)
Get new CAP
Get new cables (change cables to new CAP 1 at a time!!!) DO NOT RUN cables neatly. Cross them over each other in looms
Get New sparkplugs (Do not overtighten. Turn to seat snugly, then 1/4 turn more

Overheating engin when at idel, fan not working

does both the hoses get hot bottom and top? this will tell you if theres flow through the radiator. If you have a voltage tester test the wires on the fan connecter check there is current going to the fan if so replace the fan its a common problem as previously stated.
if there is no power to the fan when the vehicle should be turning it on i.e. its hot enough check the fan relay under the hood.
