Got new battery for asus ul50vt notebook because i thought the original was not functioning. the first time i charged it was fine. now i cant run the laptop unless the charger is plugged in, battery remains at "64% charging, plugged in". orange light sometimes starts blinking. battery wont charge. if i unplug charger computer dies

I followed your suggestion and it worked perfectly for one full charge. When I recharged it a second time and used the laptop with battery power it randomly shut down twice. I can't boot it up unless the charger is plugged in, and if i disconnect the charger it shuts down. the battery meter says it's fully charged. it is a third party battery, and no, I do not use extension cords.

Hi there.

It could be static build up. Take out battery and mains lead. Press power on switch and hold for 30 seconds. Re install battery and then power cord. and let charge for recommended time. Also make sure that the power cord isn't connected to an extension. Straight from wall socket.

Is the battery a third party?

Let me know what happens.

How can I replace the CMOS battery an ASUS laptop?

There is no replaceable CMOS battery on this model.
It is probably a rechargeable battery on the motherboard.
See Manual which only mentions the main battery pack.

Asus UL50VT always shows charging

Either your battery or the power cord has an issue. Does the battery ever fully charge and make the charging light disappear or turn green? If not the battery could be bad.

Try running the computer off the battery by removing the power cord. if the battery starts losing charging strength real quick then your battery is bad. I've see bad batteries that say they are 100% charged but as soon as you remove the power cord it gets down to 5% i a matter of minutes.

Try running the computer on just the power cord. If it stays on and lets you operate without any problem then the power cord is good. A good power cord will not charge a bad battery.

If the laptop does not let you stay on long with the power cord, then either the power cord is bad or the DC Power Jack where the power cord plugs into the laptop is bad. If either of them is bad they will not charge a good battery.

Check your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs into the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

I recommend that you do a system restore to the entire paartition on your hard drive. With ASUS notebooks, this can be done by restarting the computer and pressing F9.

I had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

Purchased new battery, now NOTEBOOK won't work on battery after full charge

Better you first charge the battery for 16 to 17 hours and recheck the same. If problem persists, change the battery from where you bought it. that battery is faulty. And yes there is no need to install the battery from device manager. Just open the battery compartment and replace the battery with new one.
