The filter is actually a clean out trap on the drain pump. The following link explains how to access and clean out:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

This is an easy process if you follow the instructions step-by-step. Some other advice for getting rid of washer odors in front loaders is available in this next link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r513372-front_loader_mildew_odor

I personally own one of these washers and have never had an odor problem by following these tips. I've had the washer now for 8 years. It does work if you're diligent about maintaining it. I hope this information is helpful to you. Let em know if you have further questions.

It smells stagnant, opened the flap on the front and smelly water came out,but how do I clean the filter?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France @ 17:48 Sunday afternoon.

Sorry but I do not know your specific machine but most are very similar!
I will have to assume that the flap to which you refer has the filter behind it because you say- 'opened the flap on the front and smelly water came out'. You should be able to pull the filter out of its 'container' even if it takes some gentle persuasion and patience!.
Also are you absolutely sure that it IS the water itself smelling? If your washer water drain pipe shares a sink's plumbing, it could be that the smell is coming from the sink's u-tube and through the empty pipework. I have had a few problem tickets like that! Plus- normally waste washing water a) smells of the washing powder and /or conditioner and b) would be mostly flushed away.
This is not to say that it isn't the filter with something fairly obnoxious stuck in it!
Good luck,

John C

My washer wont drain

Unplug washer, remove bottom front cover, (three phillips head screws at the bottom) unscrew filter and pull out (lower right). Next, remove the very smelly $2.67 in change and a nest of muck. Put every thing back together in reverse order

My dishwasher does not drain after a cleaning cycle. the smelly water stays on the bottom of the washer.

Check the filters (triclean you have to remove the 2 screws on both upper and lower filters inside the machine). Remember how they came apart because you will have to reassemble them 8)
Check both ends of the flex tube from the dishwasher to the drain, and the drain port for blockages.

Kenmore front load HE washer odor

How old is your machine? Mine is 5 years old, and I just started to get a "sewage" smell in my laundry room this weekend. I disconnected the water return to the sewer line and discovered lots of gunk in the hose, and the connector to the machine was completely dark green. I'm going to replace the hose, and trying to figure out if there is some sort of filter.

We only use He detergents too, so I guess this is something that just happens over time.

Hotpoint First Edition FEW10 filter/smell

Filter is located in the big hose from the drum to the pump, called the sump hose
Access is via a removable panel at the rear of the washer. remove hose and clean filter.

Moldy smell

Turn it off, unplug it. Remove filter and check if filter and/or filter and pump housing are clogged with something "smelly". When you're at it check the drain pipe for too.
